So I have a beautiful little leopard qitari mare who has a leopard father and a quagga mother. I also have a beautiful quagga stallion. I test bred the two repeatedly, and came to the conclusion that all babies would be leopard, and liked that the spots on the possible babies kind of looked like roses. So I bred them.

I'm NOT complaining, but boy was I surprised when I hatched the baby out just now!

See?

And he's even got relatively nice bright colours instead of that washed out pastel goop that second and more gen qitaries seem to fall into.

The breeding generator just gives you an idea of what the baby will look like, no guarantees

The mother with leopard spots has a more dominant gene than the father with Quagga. That is why the generator kept showing you a baby with vis. Leopard.

But just like real life genetics, because the father has a visible recessive, there is a chance for the baby to have that gene visible, which is what happened.

If you would like a detailed explanation of how genetics work in sylestia, feel free to ask as I will be writing one out for a few other people today and would be happy to forward you the pm.

Yes, I know the spots are more dominant. Like I say, I wasn't complaining, I just wanted to share what was to me a really neat surprise (and just when I needed a nice surprise, too). I don't know if I'd understand the explanation, but can you tell me if grandparent genetics have any possible influence on the genes a baby is born with?

Short answer, no they don't.

Long answer: Grandparents may pass certain traits to their offspring and those offspring can pass those traits to their offspring. But your not going to get traits that the grandparents had but parents did not on the babies.

Gotcha! So Muhlisha's quagga mother had nothing to do with the baby's colour. It was all Loch Lomond's (the baby's dad) doing.

Thanks for replying!
