"The zebstrika snorted as he watched his opponent crash to the ground a few feet away, smoking. He heard a shout but before he could to turn to the battlefield to see what was going on, Blitz was knocked to the side by Axew, who tore at the equine's shoulder with his sharp claws."

So I picked up my gameboy and started playing Pokemon white again after about a year (It's been a very busy year) and no, I haven't played the sequals or X/Y yet. I'm not huge into pokemon as I once was. You see, back in my day there were only 2 versions: Red, and Blue. There was no breeding, no physical/special attacks, no color (not really), and the inventory system was a nightmare.

Whoops! Got sidetracked. ANYWAY, I picked up White again and continued where I left off and beat the last 2 gyms, elite 4, and N. I had a LOT of trouble with Ghestis' Heidragen so I went off training my Zebstrika and found myself at the Battle Station.

If you don't know what that is, it's a train station where you battle your way through the cars. If you beat 7 trainers in a row, you get 3 bp. Thing is, the pokemon start out really weak and get progressively stronger. So even though everyone is set to level 50, you are going to flatten the first couple of trains with your fully evolved pokemon.

So here is my, rather amusing, 9th double battle.
Man, it's been a while since I've written pokemon battles...I think I reffed my last ASB battle 5 years ago O.O

Eat It
A Pokemon Short Story

Larka unhooked the two empty pokeballs from her belt, taking one in each hand and holding them at arm's length. Twin beams of red shot out from their centers to hit and envelop the zebstrika and serperior in front of her. "Good work you two, take a rest." The pokeballs opened to snap up their occupants, then shrunk down so Larka could replace them on to her belt.

With a friendly smile she made her way across the train car to the school kid who'd been her opponent. He wasn't too particularly happy with his defeat and returned his Sewaddle with a sigh before looking up at her. "Good battle, lady."

Larka's smile faltered a bit before she had it firmly back in place. 'You're an experienced trainer, act like it.' She chided herself. After all, it wasn't the boy's fault she had to battle through the beginners on the train before she could make it to the tougher opponents. "You, too. Keep practicing with your pokemon and you'll get the hang of it." Not very inspirational words, but then she wasn't feeling very inspired; she was bored.

With a nod to the kid Larka stopped at the computer in the back of the car to heal her pokemon, not that the two she'd used had taken much damage. Eight battles in a row and no one had managed to take down either of them. Not surprising given that the only serious trainers she'd battled thus far were still in grade school, while she had recently defeated the Elite Four. When the computer dinged and gave her back her pokeballs, Larka turned and stepped through to the next cart.

As the door slid closed behind her, Larka took in the appearance of the man standing by the seats to her left. He appeared to be a server of some sort with a white button down dress shirt and black slacks. Most telling, though, was the circular metal tray tucked against his side by an arm with a white towel draped over it; why was he carrying a serving tray anyway? His slightly shaggy blonde hair fell just above hazel eyes which smiled when he noticed her. "Good afternoon, ma'm, I assume you are my next opponent?"

"Sure am, shall we get started?" Larka figured the sooner the battle started, the sooner it would be over and she could move on. She made her way to the center of the car as the server did the same. With one hand she unhooked the same two pokeballs she had just put away, enlarged them, and tossed them into the empty space between her and her opponent. Once the balls hit the ground they both split open and spit out red light that eventually faded into a zebstrika on the left and a serperior on the right. Across the car, two similar red beams formed themselves into an axew and a foongus, with the axew on Larka's left.

The now empty pokeballs zipped back towards Larka, and she had to catch each in a separate hand; catching two retuning pokeballs one-handed was a trick she hadn't practiced enough to try in front of another trainer, especially with the fresh memory of the zebstrika and serperior in front of her literally rolling on the ground laughing at her previous attempts to do so.

With an inner sigh of resignation at her un-evolved opponents, Larka slipped into her battle state of mind as she quickly assessed the current situation, making decisions based on the knowledge and experience she gained traveling the region for the last year. 'Alright, we're up against a rock type and a grass type. Blitz's Flame charge should take down the foongus pretty quick, but neither of my pokemon has a good offense against rock, so I may as well play to Snark's strengths and use a physical grass attack to take advantage of his high attack stat and STAB.'

She knew Blitz and Snark were fast, faster than most opponents of the same level, and Larka took full advantage of this, snapping out her commands as soon as she made a decision. "Blitz, Flame Charge that foongus; Snark, use Leaf Blade on Axew!" The moment the words let her mouth, both pokemon started moving diagonally forward towards their targets.

The serperior, already coiled like a snake, shot forward in a movement one could just barely see if they were paying attention and cleared the distance to the axew before the server could utter a command. Blitz, being only a hair slower than his teammate, charged towards the red and white mushroom pokemon who was across the car and to his right. About halfway to their destinations, Larka's pokemon's paths crossed. Without a moment's hesitation, Blitz jumped over the serperior in a shallow leap that had his front hooves just skimming the green body below him. As the zebstrika touched down, his stripes began to glow red and flames licked up his legs. At virtually the same time, Snark's chest hit the ground and he the momentum of his backend to swing his now green-glowing tail and it's sharp leaves into the axew, who was thrown to the right toward Foongus. A moment later Blitz, the front half his body ablaze, rammed into the foongus at full speed.

The zebstrika snorted as he watched his opponent crash to the ground a few feet away, smoking. He heard a shout but before he could to turn to the battlefield to see what was going on, Blitz was knocked to the side by Axew, who tore at the equine's shoulder with his sharp claws. Blitz stumbled a bit, then went down to his front knees and eventually his hindquarters sank to the floor as he started to get drowsy. The zebstrika laid his head down and fell asleep.

Larka saw Axew move toward her zebstrika, claws out, and issued another rapid set of commands. "Snark, Leaf Blade Axew; get him away from Blitz!" 'Too slow, too slow! Snark is on the other side of the car!' Thoughts rushed through Larka's head as Snark shot toward his target, tail glowing. Using the same movement as before, the serperior's tail slammed into Axew, sending him flying past Blitz and into the side of the train car, but not before his claws raked across Blitz's left shoulder.

It appeared the waiter had finally managed to call an attack to his pokemon. In fact, at that very moment he was returning the foongus and throwing another pokeball into the battle. When the red light faded, a vanillite was floating near Snark.

'Shoot! How could I have forgotten about Foongus's Effect Spore ability? Ugh, well, he'll wake up eventually and can take out that vanillite when he does. '

"Snark, finish off Axew with Leaf Blade!"
"Axew, Slash Blitz while he's down; Vanillite, use Icy Wind!"

Axew, already back on his feet, ducked low and dashed the short distance to the sleeping zebstrika's side, swiping his claws across Blitz's right shoulder this time. Just as he finished, Snark's tail swept him away and up into the air. When he landed, the axew laid still a moment before shakily getting to his feet.

A sudden chill overcame the car and a cold breeze swept through, plucking at the trainer's cloths. "Blitz, Snark!" Larka shouted over the now howling wind, not entirely sure what she would have instructed them to do even if they could hear and respond to her commands. She was at a loss so she grit her teeth to keep them from chattering and waited out the attack. When the wind died down, it was obvious to Larka that Blitz was done in. Her eyebrows shot up in disbelief that her mighty horse had been defeated by...an ice cream cone.

Somewhat impressed the waiter had managed to take down one of her pokemon (though, if her zebstrika hadn't fallen asleep, that vanillite would have been a puddle on the floor), Larka returned Blitz while figuring out who to send out next. 'Xana's a flying type so I don't really feel like sending her out which leaves...' her lips curled up into an almost evil smile as she grabbed the last pokeball on her belt.

While commanding Snark to use one last Leaf Blade attack on Axew, Larka pointed the now-enlarged pokeball to the floor in front of her. The red beam shaped itself into a krookodile and faded away. krookodiles have a high attack stat, and this one in particular just loved attacking with those large jaws and pointy teeth of his. When the pokemon in question looked at her for instruction, Larka simply pointed to Vanillite and said, "Eat it."

With a roar, the battle's newest combatant charged towards the ice pokemon and, before it could do anything, clamped his jaws down and viciously threw it against the wall on the far side of the car. When Vanillite slid to the floor and didn't move, the krookodile let out another roar as he amped up to face his next opponent. Used to the crocodile's eagerness, Larka and Snark didn't bat an eye, but the waiter was looking a bit shaken when returning his two pokemon (Axew had been knocked out by Snark's Leaf Blade).

The waiter paused a moment before almost timidly sending out his last pokemon. Larka wondered uncharitably if he was afraid of all the noise her krookodile was making or the way he eagerly snapped up Vanillite. At least he didn't actually eat the pokemon; she had him trained better than that.

'Last one. Moxie's all amped up so I'll probably just let him go to town against whatever is sent against us, but have Snark ready to follow up with Leaf Blade, just...in...case...' Larka's thoughts stuttered to a stop when she saw the waiter's last pokemon. It appeared to be just a pile of trash, but she knew better; it would be silly to store garbage in a pokeball and carry it around with you, but then it is also silly to bring a serving tray to a pokemon battle.

Larka gave up on hiding her frustration and put her palm to her forehead in exasperation. 'First an ice cream cone now a freaking pile of trash. I am so done with this battle.' "Moxie, eat the garbage, too, please."

With yet another battle cry the krookodile stomped toward Trubbish, who just sat there trembling in front of the big, scary, crocodile. The waiter's last pokemon met much the same fate as Vanillite and found himself thrown to the side of the train car, knocked out. With a sigh, Larka plucked the 2nd and last balls from her belt, expanded them, and returned her pokemon. She also grabbed the first ball while walking across the car to the other trainer. Holding the 3 pokeballs in one hand, she shook with her opponent.

"Good match. In nine battles, you are the first one who has managed to take down Blitz or Snark; congrats."
"yeah, well, it was mostly luck on my part that effect spore stopped your zebstrika in its tracks. Suppose I oughtn't quit my day job, though, huh?"
Larka shrugged. "Actually, if you did and were able to focus on training, you'd get a lot better. Good luck, now." She stopped at the computer and inserted the three pokeballs to heal her pokemon, then reattached then to her belt and continued on to the next car.
