I have sifted through a few forums trying to find this information out and had no luck

Are the Rare, Epic, Legendary, and Mythical pets that are available for capture located in every area or are they only in the later quest line areas? I saw a few rares in the Umbra Forrest but I have never seen an Epic, Legendary, or Mythical. Does your pet's level have anything to do with it? i.e. Epic pets are only lvls 55 and above or something - which means your adventure team must be leveled that high?

Any imput would be greatly appreciated :)

I know that the Legendary and Mystical pets are extraordinarily rare and not easy to find - I just want to make sure I am battling in the right areas to come across them.

I've only seen 1 epic pet in my my whole sylestia life. Only 1. My thought is that they are EXTREMELY rare. And also an epic requires a strong trap, which is unlocked in Astyville. So that Gould be another possibility.

Thanks so much Crystal! I have that area unlocked and have the strong traps. I just wanted to be sure that I wasn't limiting myself by staying in certain areas or by not have strong enough pets to attract those levels :)

Epic pets appear at Lv. 50 and above. So, in the Dungeon of the Forsaken and Ethernia. Legendary and Mythical pets appear only in the third area or anywhere with the new battle system (event zones, etc.). Strong traps catch Epic pets and below, and only a Masterful trap (the diamond one) can catch Legendary and Mythical pets.

Mythical pets are basically wild Shinies from Pokemon. Legendaries are like Masuda Method shinies, and Epics are just pretty rare (and, unless they're an event pet, usually pretty durn ugly).
