From what I gather:

Yellow: Available for public breeding
Blue: on a mission
Purple: unspent mission points
Grey: in party
Pink: Recovering from breeding
Orange: Malnourished

Not quite sure what green means though.

You can hover over the boxes to see what they mean though.

Ohh, gotcha.

Well, generally, I ignore the mini tabs anyways. xD; They get out of hand when you start to accumulate pets (like I have a ton of pets with undistributed points or ones that are on missions)
So having them colored usually aren't bad things. Just make sure you keep your pets fed. c:

Pale yellow is for public sale
Green just means there's a pet in that slot (as opposed to white which means there's nothing there.)

Green means that everything's ok with them, they'r full, healthy, all level ups have been spent and they'r not doing anything, no mission, no parties, nothing.

Green = Idle and Ready

Goldish/Yellow: Up for Breeding
Brightish Yellow: On Sale
Orange: Malnourished
Green: Ready to Use
Blue: On Mission
Purple: Time to Level Up
Pink: Recovering from Breeding
Gray: In Party

Just going to state that some colors have priority.

Orange is higher than most, but lower than Yellow (Sale) I believe
Purple is higher than Pink
Green is the lowest
Yellow I think is the highest priority

And that's all I know off the top of my head right now.
