I'm at a bit of a dilemma.

Should I be a normal person and RP normally with people or should I be not smart and try and make an RPG of sorts?

Hmm. Quite an interesting dilemma indeed, Cande. What do y'all want me to "host" (and probably fail)?

I doubt I'd finish any concept anytime soon due to finals and the holidays coming up, which is /probably/ a good thing so that I can hone up any concepts.

RPs tend to need less planning then RPGs. But RPGs are a lot more flexible timewise, plus you can essentially play out the same story but with different twists thanks to player choice/narrator choice if you're the host.

It's harder to do multiplayer on RPGs, but not a problem with RPs. RPs tend to last for less time then RPGs, so that's anotehr thing.

I think it mostly depends on what ideas you have and what you want to do. I personally like RPGs better as someone who has problems with logging on constantly, but it's up to you at the end of the day.

^ Basically 100% what Orca said lol

RPGs are definitely more complex to host than RPs, but RPs tend to be harder to keep up with if youre busy (whether you're hosting or just playing). If you're the narrator of an RPG, on the other hand, you're more in control of the pace and can take breaks if you need without having to worry about missing anything. You've also got more time/more of a hand in planning how you want things to go as opposed to RPs, but an RPG narrator also has more responsibility in keeping track of plot and managing everyone at once, so it depends which you prefer.

Perhaps I am biased, though, because I too prefer RPGs haha. That being said, our RPG forum is practically on its deathbed lol, so it would be lovely if you helped give it some life xD (although I suppose that also means you're less likely to get many players)

I also have a really old guide to both here if it helps!

If you've got any questions about RPG planning, feel free to ask or DM me!

Thank you two for your tidbits, I might just make an RPG and swallow the consequences if it dips.

Is it alright if I ask you two for a wee bit of assistance for setting it up so that I /don't/ bust it up? >->

Thank you guys :D

I have effectively an off-period in about 2-ish hours, I'll brainstorm then and you guys can sort the "good" from the "bad" >:P

so my first general idea is converting an existing semi-already-an-rpg franchise into one here, except make it really simplified

is this advisable to do or nah-?

Hmm can you elaborate more? There are RPGs that are based in already-existing franchises (with different levels of how much the RPG universe varies from canon) if that's what you mean. You can also say that your RPG is heavily inspired/based on certain aspects of a franchise if you want, so I think either of those are fine (bonus points if you get to skip worldbuilding because of it lol)

I had an idea to convert Monster Hunter into an RPG format here; but there's a lot of complexity in it (be it mainly armor skills lmao)

I might be able to skip worldbuilding, actually, it also might give me D&D practice on this (I attempted to make a campaign of the same franchise, big monsties go brrrrrrrr)

I might not be able to actually, if I want to slap in my own monsties too but, still. Long story short, big monsters go monch monch and you smack big monsties
