This might sound like a dumb question but something I never really understood.

I have never really seen a point in nurturing or what is does other than a way to get scales. I havent seen any changes in my pets after they have been nurtured.

If anyone can let me know that it is about, it would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not sure about this, so this is why I'm not pinging.
It's a way to boost/raise your pet's stats by 1 or so points. The new update suggests that it will boost a random stat that is not yet maxed, but if all is maxed, it won't boost at all.

Nurturing helps eggs hatch faster and increases hatchlings' stats. I thiiiink it's 6 nurtures for +1 hour to an egg, and 8 nurtures for +1 stat point to a hatchling? Not entirely sure on the numbers, but that's the function, at least.

every 6 correct nurtures will boost an eggling's maturity by one hour (meaning with enough nurtures , an egg can hatch over 24 hours earlier than it would (144 nurtures is the amount needed to take off 24 hours))

every 4 correct nurtures will boost a hatchling's maturity by an hour, while every 8 it will gain +1 to its lowest stat among HP, Str, Int, Dex, or Agi (with HP being counted, I believe, removing the last digit? eg, 100 hp = 10, 453 = 45, 1200 = 120? I'd have to ask Krin), with HP getting +20 and the others getting +1. Once all other stats hit Max, it will swap to boosting Mana by 10 every 8 nurtures instead.

The new update was for what happens when hatching an egg- when using the 'let hatchling hatch on its own' option on the hatching popup, it's always randomly picked which of str, int, dex, or agi, which has meant it could randomly roll to 'boost' a stat that's already maxed (eg, a pet has 100 str, 90 int, 100 dex, 100 agi, it could previously give the bonus +1 to any, but now it will go 'str, dex, and agi are maxed, +1 goes to int')

for an example of the power of Nurtures I will provide my two GB ryos
being x4 boosted, with 2/2 bonus and prisma philter means that at becoming hatchlings their stats were +50 from regular Exclusive ryo stats, and I nurture boosted them both
starting stats at hatching:
Str: 82, Int: 90, Dex: 86, Agi: 98
This guy I made after the boards ended
Str: 93, Int: 93, Dex: 93, Agi: 98
Nurtures gave him a huge boost of +11 Str, +3 Int, and +7 dex
THIS one I made during boards
Str: 97, Int: 97, Dex: 97, Agi: 98
that's +15 Str, +7 Int, and +11 dex
absolutely wild

Is there an maximum amount of nurtures you can get? For example- and unrealistic example- my pets are birthed at 500 health, 10 mana, and 10 of every other stat. If I get enough nurtures, which will probably be all the players on Sylestia, I can get my pet to be maxed?

There is a max number of nurtures you can get by virtue of how much those nurtures make a pet mature and how long it takes to get those nurtures. However, the absolute max you could get would be 426 to go from eggling to hatchling (71 hours x 6 nurtures) and 576 to go from hatchling to adolescent (144 hours x 4 nurtures) -- assuming you got all of those nurtures within the first hour the pet existed (have never seen this happen, but vaguely possible).

As only the nurtures as a hatchling add to stats, and it takes 8 nurtures for one stat increase, you can get a max of 72 stat increases (+1 to strength, intelligence, dexterity, or agility; +20 for health; +10 for mana). So, in your example, if you could get all 576 nurtures in the first hour the pet was a hatchling, your hypothetical pet would have the following stats:

Health: 500
Mana: 10
Strength: 28
Intelligence: 28
Dexterity: 28
Agility: 28

However, Scath's example of getting 33 points is what I would expect to see as high stat gain from nurtures, as each hour that goes by, you lose 4 of those potential nurtures, meaning every two hours you lose a potential stat point.
