What is going on? 0.0

Been gone for I think 2 days and now I'm reading this.

You don't have to ask why this is happening Krinadon. Remember when I told you about hackers got access to Woozworld? I think same thing is happening now, but the attack on Sylestia is different. Point is, Sylestia must be growing and is being recognized. I discovered this site by I typing "virtual pet games" in google and I clicked a link of top list in virtual pet games. Sylestia was 7th (if I could remember correctly) That was 5 years ago. It must have accelerated by now. Top games are being targeted by hackers or people spreading computer viruses. Let's get used to it. Sylestia being in the top list, we should have expected things like this could happen and get prepared for it years ago. But it's not to late to resolve this now and provide security to prevent it from happening again.

Also you might want to tighten the security on accessing the main computer and your Sylestians' accounts. Hackers made it in to Woozworld's main computer before. Woozworld is like top of the top site but it still happened years ago. It's not surprising if they an do this to other popular site's main computer too. I think you should think about what to do with these matters before it happens. It's always good to think a few steps ahead of things to see the probabilities and think how to handle, deal or prevent them.

I hope this helps. Good luck. Knowing you, this is gonna be a breeze to you. There's nothing you failed to resolve so far :)

I have no reason to believe there was any compromise to Sylestia's security or internal systems. Basically, someone just ran (or paid someone else to run) a bot script that registered a bunch of fake accounts and then had those accounts send out hundreds of PMs each to random players with links to other websites that most likely were loaded with malware.

All accounts involved have already been banned and all messages sent have been deleted and I took some measures to hopefully prevent that from happening again without implementing anything that would be annoying or frustrating for actual players.

I love this site!
I love that site administrators actually do things about stupid people and their pranks.

I hope to be playing on this site for many more years, and let me know if I can ever help!
Thank you for all you guys have done, are doing, and will do in the future.

It's not the current problem but could be a future problem. All I'm saying is, they might attempt it soon now that Sylestia is growing and becoming a pet site that people recognize. Come to think of it, why would they have interest on doing this to just any site or sites that are not so known? What would they get for doing this?

Or could it be that someone is bitter? Someone who have a personal grudge on Sylestia or you (in real)? Have you banned someone from accessing this site before? Or former employees that you may have fired, maybe? Someone who wants Sylestia destroyed?

Whatever the case is, I know you'll handle this problem and will be fixed in no time. Oh it's already fixed. Like you said spams have been deleted and all. I know you'll come up with an idea on how to prevent this from happening again.

Whats a spam bot I've never seen one in a game and never received a message so I'm just curious on what it is?

And I also agree Sylestia is a growing community and getting recognized everywhere, I remember playing one of my favorite games until this ad promoting Sylestia showed up on screen. I saw the cute animal and decided to try it out. I had been gone for like a few days studying for state testing so I'm late on response. But Krin whever has a grudge against you just remember all of the players on sylestia are on your side and will support you :).

Spamming only works by doing it in mass and having 1%, or even 0.01%, of people "fall for it". Doing this by hand by an actual human being makes it not worth the investment (whoever is ultimately in charge of the operation).

So they create bot scripts that they just turn on and a computer somewhere in the world runs and does the act of spamming in mass with the hopes that maybe 1 or 2 out of a thousand fall for it and do whatever it is the person in charge of the operation wants them to do.

In this specific case, it was probably to click a link and unknowingly get malware installed onto your computer. And that is why I made sure to delete all of the PMs sent so that there was no way someone could accidentally click the links (at least after I had discovered and cleaned up the issue).

Spam also comes in the form of emails, junk mail, phone calls, etc.
