As the shape approaches through the darkness, it becomes more apparent that it is, indeed, a boat--a massive one, it seems. You can't even see all of it from your position in the water, its upper half practically disappearing into the fog before you can make out the deck. The result is an ethereal effect that makes it seem almost ghostly, but the water is churning below its rapidly approaching hull as it cuts smoothly through the waves and straight for you.

Just as it seems like it's right on course to run you over, it suddenly slows to a stop some distance from you, close enough that you can make out its rusted metal and flaking paint, far enough that you'll still have to paddle your way over to it. Despite having stopped, though, there's no sign of life from it--not a shout indicating that anyone has seen you, not even another call like the ones you'd heard earlier. The ship remains still and silent in the water, as if awaiting your next move.

Nice, a ghost ship. But it's better then whatever he's doing right now, so Newt does his best to paddle closer. If it suddenly runs him over it'll be a quick death (maybe? Hopefully) and if not, well. He'll find out soon.

Besides, what can go wrong? Maybe the folks on board just aren't chatty. Or they have some sensoring device that lets them see something's there but can't tell who, after all even he can't see the top of the ship.

"Tour guide?!" they squawk indignantly. "I am not some sort of 'tour guide'! My services are much more expensive than a tour guide's would be, anyways."
They shrug and start walking, flapping a hand dismissively in your direction. "I don't know, maybe you're a very incompetent spy. You seem like that type. Or maybe it's some sort of misdirection tactic, or reverse psychology..."

Then they stop abruptly, and turn back to scowl at you. "Amnesia? Ugh, don't tell me you're one of those people. It would make sense for you to have ended up where you were...no, no, it could make an convenient cover story, too," they muse, half to themself. "What a headache. Never mind, I'll just let the higher-ups figure out what to do with you. What was is it you were planning to do at reception, anyways?"

(I didn't put them since I assumed they were just something he wears all the time rather than an object he needs to carry around. I can add it if you want tho!)

The attendant stammers out a rushed thanks to you and hurriedly steps aside to make way for the assistant conductor, before disappearing through the door to the next passenger car with a soft click.

The assistant conductor nods at you. "That's good to hear. Looks like it's been a quiet night all around, though I suppose you'll be remaining as watchful as ever." She chuckles and claps you on the shoulder. "You know what they say, it's always too early to assume the rest of journey will be smooth. Good to have you on board in any case."

Passing by you to the first row of seats, she holds her hand out for a passenger's ticket, glancing at it briefly and punching it before handing it back with practiced swiftness. In response to your question, she shrugs and waves a hand over her shoulder. "Nothing else I need over here, but you can head over and check with the crew if they need that extra hand with the amenities. I'm sure they'd appreciate the help, it's been a long night for most of us."

With permission received, Ligeia gives a nod of acknowledgement before slipping away towards the staff's storage rooms. Perhaps it's rude to take action without asking permission from those on duty, but Ligeia has always preferred efficient action over all other courses.

No, that's not exactly correct. She's preferred it during all the days of her current recollection, but there's no guarantee that her lost self did as well. Personally, though, Ligeia believes the likelihood that she did is quite high.

Pondering aside, Ligeia arrives at the room and begins to work, movements slow and meandering as her eyes flick over the trolley and her hands move to restock. Despite her lethargic air, her actions are calculated to cut out all unnecessary actions save for the finale.

Finally, she involves her coworkers, appearing with a pot in hand and a soft question. "Would you like a cup? I made tea for the amenities."

"Um." Was it not his best option to go there considering his situation? Oops?

"I was originally planning on asking if they had any record of me there. To see if I had come in with anyone, where did I come from, or anything about me that they might have. Then I was just hoping that I would be able to at least ask somebody about this place without being in the way and not in some place I'm not allowed to be in."

"Er, how exactly would amnesia be a good cover story though? I didn't think it was a very common thing..." He warily eyed above him, as if something would suddenly drop down or fling towards him, sending him flying like he was some lego piece.

(i feel like you could say the same for necklaces and earrings, idk. it's up to you)
