She continued letting out loud meows

"Well I'm gonna go clean this semi chewed on pile of discarded cat kibble."

James nodded appreciatively at Hailey before turning back to the giant cat. "Listen." He said, remaining patient and calm. "I want to help you, but unfortunately I haven't found a way to understand cat yet. I can tell that you're more intelligent than most cats seem to be, so try to use that brain of yours to find a way to tell me what you need, or else protocol will require that I tranquilize you, Okay?"

She hissed, and found a peice of paper. She used her claws to dent it, showing a picture of a tranquilizer. She then made a big slash over it and hoped they would understand.

It took James a second to interpret the drawing. "Oohhh" he said, once he realized what the picture was. "Yeah I'm not the biggest fans of those things either, useful as they are. I prefer to avoid forcefully knocking people out. The idea of being forced to go to sleep against my will by unnatural causes is quite terrifying to me." He unclipped his tranquilizer and threw it out the door, hoping that that was what the cat wanted.

Purrs

"You-know you guys could really use one of those cat ladies to interpret what the cats are saying. Those guys are like cat whisperers."

James snorted in laughter. "That'd be great. We'd just have a bunch of cat obsessed old ladies patrolling the lab in case anyone has any cat related issues. I should suggest that to Mr. Peirce at our next meeting."

(I saw this roleplay and it reminded me of an old rp I used to do (not on sylestia) which I loved. I hope you don't mind if in the future I make a roleplay similar to this?)
