Hi, newbie here. My pet Magic Rainbow just got knocked unconscious, apparently, and I don't know how to recover health. Help please?

The cheapest way to revive a pet is to take them out of your party, go to your stables, and click "revive pets" (top right corner of stables page)
If you don't have much gold, your pets will auto revive and gain health over time, so long as they have been fed. It might take a while though. I think half an hour to auto revive, and a small increase in health every 15min

Okay, thanks!
I have a new question: I'm at the part in Viridian Meadows where I encounter Cereth and his group of bandits in Fungus Grove. Does anyone have tips to beat him? I've tried restoring full health and mana to both of the pets in my party (I can't upgrade to more than two slots, currently) and I can't even defeat one of the three enemies before both of my pets are unconscious. How can I make my pets better at fighting?

Took a look at your pets, and I'll recommend you to reach this guide: https://www.sylestia.com/forums/?thread=11101
You'll need to spend some gold to reset their level up points and reassign them if you want them to be more effective in battle... Lucky you haven't spent their proficiency points yet! =P
The main thing to note is that you should always choose between strength and intelligence. If you add points to one, don't add any points to the other. Your pet can only deal one type of damage, so whatever points that is added to the other type will be wasted.
Likewise for proficiency points, choose a tree that matches the stat profile you want. For equipment (do more missions to get more/better equipment. Can't really help you there since my equipment are way higher level than your pets), use equipment that adds more to strength/intelligence (whichever you chose), instead of those that adds to both equally, or across all stats. Relics also give additional damage bonus. Choose physical bonus if you chose strength, or magical bonus if you chose intelligence. Try not to use relics that split the bonus equally between the two.
Points wise, you might want to put more health/agility points to your first pet, since it'll usually get more attacks from the enemy, and use your second (and future third) pet(s) as attackers, putting more points in strength/intelligence
When fighting, keep an eye on your pets' health. every time it falls below 75%, use mend if you can. Also, read the battle log when you're fighting bosses. Some bosses have a pattern or special skill that you can try to avoid. If not, observe who deals the most damage, and attack them first. It's always better to get rid of the one that deals the most damage as fast as you can.
I can't really remember how the fight went exactly since it's been a long time since I've fought that battle. But with these tips you should be able to fight better overall.
Also, in the forums, when you're replying someone, click the @ symbol at the bottom right of their post. That will "ping" them, ie send them a notification that you're talking to them. Like what I'm doing for you. =)

Scales are used to buy things from the scale shop, including eggs (with random sylesti), stat philters, mutators, and dyes. You get them from nurturing eggs/hatchlings.
You can nurture pets by clicking on the pet's picture at their profile page, or from your hatchery page. there's a "help nurture sylesties" button, at the top left. click that and choose from the drop down list whose pets you want to nurture, and click "search for sylesties". The page will display 10 pets for you to nurture.
Click on the picture and the right action, and you'll get a scale.
For hatchlings:
weak - work out
derpy - read
hungry - offer food
restless - play
slow - race
