I'm a new player, I have no idea how to check item prices or the value of pets and their genes. Maybe you could explain? I definitely can't pay in gold

Generally, the best way to check item values is to go to the trade broker under the 'Trade' tab. There you can look up any items and see what other people are selling them for. The value that's usually used for trades is the lowest value currently listed on the broker. For pet pricing, that can get a little trickier. With tagged Themed pets like the ones I'm selling, you can go to the advanced search and look for pets of the same theme that are up for sale. There are certain traits that are less desired by most people on the site, so those traits might lower a selling price, but usually looking at these sales will give you an idea for prices. However, sometimes prices are simply what the seller feels the pet is worth. For non-themed pets... well, it really does just come down to how much the seller feels they should sell the pet for. Very inexact science.
