I'm perfectly fine with this. Especially because they're just banner adds. I hope this site stays membership free and am willing to help out how I can. :)

The really obnoxious websites that most people funnel ads through, like any version of doubleclick.net, iesnare, bluekai or tribalfusion I have cut off in a way that never even makes it to the browser. I programmed my localhost file in my Windows OS to force those four to ping the originating computer instead of mine.
It's very simple to do, too. Open Windows, open system32, open drivers, right click on etc, open properties, open security, open advanced and change the ownership to you instead of Trusted Installer, close it, reopen properties, open advanced, adjust permissions so that you have full control over all the files in the etc folder and remove Trusted Installer from permissions. Close the properties and open the folder.
Repeat the process with the hosts file, to make sure you can save to the file, it's a notepad file.
You'll see instructions starting with the pound sign on each line, get below that several lines then do this:
NOTE 1: iesnare is a username/password grabber that targets your banking information, credit cards, etc. Best you block this.
NOTE 2: 0.0.0.0 Blocks EVERYTHING from any doubleclick server (or other indicated server), regardless of which website you're on. This also prevents the server from tracking your movements. Why? ... because in certain cases "Ad Servers" like Doubleclick (and many others) will try silently to open a separate connection on the webpage you are viewing, record your movements then yes ... follow you to additional sites you may visit. This prevents it from following you.
For more information from an authorized programmer for Microsoft, see the following instructions from Windows Help.
http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm
And you wonder why I'm picky about blocking things that do not have my persmission to be on my computer? This is a shortlist of the few things which are absolutely vital to block for privacy purposes! I don't even allow cometchat access since it is, after all, an unauthorized program. I'd also suggest you go to this site: http://www.networkadvertising.org/choices/ and run the OPTOUT program. This is something many online businesses has that tells their ads to leave you alone. This is the National Advertising Initiative, Consumer Opt Out which allows you to Opt Out of Interest-Based Advertising.

That may be it. Lol. Good to know. I've started watching my ads a bit longer, and it does for some reason take a while for them to load. I still have an occasional one that doesn't, but it's now infrequent enough that I'm happy. Thanks. ^^

Ironically, I found this through an Ad on Flight Rising almost a year ago now. I do use Adblock but mostly for sites like facebook, and yahoo...(those are reeeeally annoying) I have added Sylestia to it to enable ads on this site, however, with being able to purchase diamonds occasionally, it is alright. If and when the ads do come back for me, I don't intend to block them, and will click on some even to just generate clicks/revenue for you guys! Anything to be able to help out as much as I can.
Love this site, but sad to hear theres a bit of a money flow issue. My husband is getting into Video Game Dev. and just got his Associates. We have fiddled with trying to make a browser game in the past, but we know it is not easy. Don't know how you and Fai pull it off, but I give you lots of props for doing so. Thanks for everything you both do and have done.

Whitelisted Sylestia on adblock! :) I love this site and am thrilled to help it stay alive and free in any way possible. Banner ads don't bother me - hell, I found this site through a banner ad on Dragcave, and it was possibly the best discovery ever! I would also like to throw in my two cents and say I'd love to be able to opt out of blocking ads through diamond purchases, since I try to buy them whenever I have some spare money but, as I've said, the ads don't bother me. I'd like to be able to allow them consistently and support the site while still buying diamonds!

I'm with everyone else. It's a bit of a bummer but good to know that there's a way to not have them. And that you are being very specific and hard lined about what can and can not advertise on the site.

I can't believe how selfish some of you are. Sylestia needs ads for money TO KEEP THE SITE RUNNING. It's not nice to be like this. Fai and krin are doing everything they can to keep this site running for us and im so appreciative about their time and dedication. If youre that concerned use ad block, but know they'll be losing money because "oh i dont like ads"

If the ads are REALLY that much of an issue for you guys you could just get adblock and call it a day, I have adblock but I turned it off for Sylestia cause I trust Krin and Fai to make sure the ads aren't too invasive.
Otherwise Krin, I'd also like the toggle ad switch for diamond buyers, I completely don't mind the ads I've seen so far and wouldn't mind keeping them up despite diamond purchases.
