Faiona and I have begrudgingly decided to implement some minor advertisements into Sylestia in hopes of generating some extra support to continue the development of this world that we love so much. This is considered an experiment and we will re-examine this implementation after a few weeks.

The advertisements are not active as of right now, but probably will start displaying later tonight.


How it will work
There will be three designated advertising locations:

There will also be a passive way based on diamond transactions to avoid having to see the advertisements. It is as follows:

Any Diamond Transaction: No ads for 30 days from date of transaction. This will re-apply after any transaction.

Every $20 of Transactions within a 30 Day Period: No ads for 60 days. This is cumulative, but does not stack with the previous clause. Maximum of 360 Days is kept track of.

The reasoning for this is because those who purchase diamonds are already financially supporting the Site in a direct way. The advertisements give those who choose not to or cannot purchase diamonds a chance to also help financially support the Site.

Lastly, if you are not eligible to have the advertisements disabled and just absolutely cannot stand them, you can just simply use an ad blocker of some sorts to hide them. While we appreciate those who allow the advertisements to help us generate extra support, we completely understand the position of those who do not wish to see them.


Advertising Content
We have done our best to keep the advertisements limited to PG-13, but obviously we can't literally control the display of each and every ad. If you ever see an inappropriate ad, please take a screenshot and let us know so that we can block it from appearing again. You can also look for the small 'X' in the top right corner and click that and block that ad from displaying for yourself.

Inappropriate ads would be of content above PG-13, ads that are sexually explicit or suggestive in nature, or ads that are promoting inappropriate topics as covered in our Terms of Service.

As a side note, the Morkko's are still being worked on, but probably won't be released this weekend. They should be released around Wednesday though of next week barring any issues.

Just a thought, but why not have a spot where users can watch adds for a small amount of Diamonds (say 5 or less) as well? That way the users have another way of getting Diamonds while still helping the site in another small way, for those who can't on a large scale.

I can totally understand this - you have to make the site financially viable with all the hours of work that you have to put into it.

I personally have no problem with it at all as long as the ads are PG-13.

On a side note of my own, is anything planned for the week of love this year?

We'll see how this goes and go from there. But alternative Diamond-earning methods I guess could be possible down the road, although we do not plan on it at this time. We would prefer not to make Sylestia dependant on advertisements, but I can see the mutual benefit of what you're suggesting.

In terms of a festival, no. We are going to just focus on the four seasonal festivals for this year.

We will try to at least have something fun to do for that week/weekend though. It will largely depend on what our artists can get finished in time.

While I am very unhappy about this, if you guys need the support then I guess I'll just have to deal with it, as annoying as they'll get, I support the development of Sylestia and will allow them to run.

I have no issues with ads as long as they're not those talking ads that won't go away.

There should be no audio nor anything that pops up or covers the screen or anything like that.

The only ads should just be display banners.

I was afraid they'd be vidio ads.

Side note please, please! Don't add membership on top of diamonds! That and the video ads were where i more or less gave up on neopets. (Ok so I'm back sometimes but slyestia is way better.)
