Some of them try to climb it. The creatures pull them down.

She forms poisonous barbs on the vines. Then she spreads her wings and begins divebombing those who're trying to flee.

They run inward, only to be faced with more creatures.

She turns into a larger hawk. She then starts diving into the crowd, grabbing two or three humans at random, flying about half a mile into the air, and then dropping them, which not only kills them but also hits other humans in the process.

She keeps doing this, though a few times one person will fall on top of a shadow.

Seeing that it doesn't affect the shadows, she begins aiming the dropped people towards them.

When they get puked out it's literally a pile of bones with skin hanging off. Those creatures get noticeably bigger.
