Although there had been much hustle and bustle earlier in the day, an almost unnatural silence began to descend upon Sylestivale as soon the sun set.
There was an almost palpable sense of tension and foreboding in the air, and all of the villagers quickly hurried back to their homes, casting furtive looks at each other as they went.
And while some villagers quickly slept-- or attempted to sleep-- quite fitfully, unable to shake the sense that something terrible would happen tonight, others stayed awake. Some silently slipped out of their houses to take action into their own hands, intending to do what they could to possibly alleviate this sense of impending doom, while others gathered to plot and act out a nefarious plan.
Night Phase 1 has begun!
There will be no in-game talking between anyone during this time, with the exception of the Mafia, who may talk amongst themselves via PM.
- Mafia may discuss and decide on one person to eliminate during this time. (If you are a Mafia, please try not to leave anyone out in the decision.)
- Everyone else with a special role may also DM me the person they wish to act upon during this time.
- All other Villagers must sit tight and hope they don't die.
- This phase may last up to 48 hours in real time. If all people with special roles DM me with their action or specifically tell me that they wish to opt out of acting before the 48 hours are up, the phase will end early.
- If you have a special role and do not DM me within the 48 hours, you will be skipped.

Early in the morning, all villagers were roused by the loud tolling of the village bell. Though some were confused, others rising blearily as a result of their secretive late-night excursions, and still others shaking their heads in relief over having survived, they all eventually followed the bell to the village courthouse, where the mayor was waiting for them with a grave look on her face. Most fearing the worst, they took a seat or perch as they waited to hear the reason they'd been summoned.
"Greetings, citizens of Sylestivale. I am afraid to inform you that one among us has been killed, almost certainly by someone--or someones-- who now sit in this courthouse."
Agitated murmuring rose up from the townspeople as they tried to determine what resident of Sylestivale was missing from the trial, but they were soon hushed as the mayor spoke again.
"Judging by the results left behind, the victim in question had snuck out of her house, intending to see if there was any suspicious activity going on. However, before she was able to complete her mission, she was unfortunately met with tragedy. The murderer, or murderers, intentionally placed a watermelon in her path under the cover of night. Unable to see the tripping hazard in the dark, Strawberry the Bulbori accidentally tripped over it and suffered a serious fall that resulted in her death."
(Just to be clear, I am not revealing Strawberry's role. She may or may not have been the actual Detective. I'm simply making a story up off her character's day job, which was a detective.)
"Unfortunately, we will never know what Strawberry's true identity was. However, it is of extreme and immediate importance that we find out who her killer was, in order to prevent future... incidents. In order to do so, I have decided to hold a trial. If you have any information or suspicions as to the identity of the murderer, please speak up now. If we reach a majority conclusion on this, the suspect will be immediately put to death for their crimes."
Day Phase 1 has begun!
In-game discussion may occur publicly on this thread (and only this thread) during this time.
- Anyone is welcome to speak or say anything in-game at any time during this phase (you don't need to follow a strict format or anything), however, this discussion has one main intention: to decide on and vote out a suspect.
- At any time, you may decide to officially vote or nominate someone by saying anything along the lines of "I decide to vote for/nominate ___" in bold on the thread, or through a DM to me. Keep in mind that there is a difference between simply accusing someone and actually voting/nominating them. Only vote/nominate someone if you have firmly decided that you want them out!
If you find yourself being nominated, it's usually in your best interest to try and defend yourself however you want, though people may still vote for you anyways.
You do not have to give a reason for nominating/voting for someone, though it may help your case.
(A nomination is simply the first public accusation of someone, voting is basically just "hopping on board" of the nomination. There's not some important difference between them, it just makes the trial clearer.)
- You may also opt out of voting entirely by saying "I decide not to vote at all" in bold.
- Use the pinglist only if you are nominating someone or have another announcement you think everyone should know. If you're replying to someone, e.g. defending yourself against a nomination or agreeing with someone, please only ping those involved. Make sure you ping me if you decide to vote publicly.
- You may decide to change your vote at any time (but try not to do it too much for my sake). Again, your vote may be cast publicly (declaring on the thread) or in a private DM to me.
- In order to eliminate someone through voting, they must have a majority of all votes and at least 3 votes by the end of the phase. If the majority of voters specifically wish to opt out or no one has more than 2 votes, no one gets eliminated.
-This phase may last up to 48 hours in real time. If all people DM/ping me with their vote/nomination or specifically tell me that they wish to opt out of voting before the 48 hours are up, the phase will end early.
- If you do not vote within the time limit, you will be skipped. Failing to act within the time limit is not the same as an opt-out in this situation-- it does not count for or against any side, it is ignored entirely.
- Roleplaying and random discussions are encouraged, this is just the loose format to follow as you do so. Let me know if you have any questions, but you should get the idea soon :)
(Oh, and if you are dead, you cannot vote! Though I guess you can still say stuff out-of-game)

She glanced around at the other villagers, looking for signs of nervousness, signs of less shock than one should show at a Sylesti's death. "Where were you all last night?" she finally asked. "I was at home reading a book by the fire, as I was much too scared to sleep."
