The teacher kept rambling on and on caught up in stories of the past and not noticing your inattentiveness or the burning circle now in her desk. The fire didn't seem to have the intention of spreading or burning anything, it just was there on the desk, a lovely ring of fire.

The teacher was gazing toward a spot just above the door and probably wouldn't notice if a flying elephant decide to fall on top of her.

(lol, I'm kinda just tempted to say they burn his hand, but alas that's not what they do...)
The flames weren't hot, instead they flickered over your hand trying to pull you forward. As you watched, a spider fell from the ceiling, landed in the middle of the flames and then vanished in a poof of smoke.

The flames flicker around the eraser and the eraser and part of your hand disappear with smoke. Which was weird, since you could still feel your hand and eraser.
