"Me neither," Victoria snapped. Realizing how harsh her voice had sounded, she lowered her head again, a scowl on her face. "Um, sorry... what I mean is that we have no choice. Maybe it's nice here, who knows?"

"Victoria Rosalind." Her voice was hoarse for some odd reason, but she managed to speak.

"I-I'm Simon..."

I grabbed some of the grass in the meadow, absently pulling at it. "I'm Carter. Carter Lane Smith." I stared at my mittens, then looked back up at the looming castle. "So..... Do we just knock?"

She shrugged, then made her way to the looming dark oak doors of the palace. When she knocked, a few bolts and locks clicked as someone opened the door moments later.

It was a teenage boy, looking to be around 16 or 17 years old. His eyes widened and he ran a hand through his messy blonde hair. "Newcomers? Come along then."

A muffled woman's voice responded. "Yes- come in."
