How about a Pinocchio Lizard?

Or a Frilled Lizard?

The female could have the frill in while the male's is out

Duck/duckling, Donkey, Hoopoe bird, Mute Swan/cygnet, Coelacanthe (Pronounced 'See-luh-canth'. A fish that was thought to extinct for 100 years before being redicovered in a secluded Mexican bay by fishermen.), Manatee, Warthog, Meerkat, Magpie, Crow/Raven (same animal, different laymans' term used), Goose/gosling, Quail, Boar, Elephant/Wooly Mammoth, Triceratops, Goat, Lorise, Sugar baby, Chicken, Hawk, Buzzard (vulture), Tomato Hornworm, and last but not least, Manatee-Panda.

I think a heron would be Soooo fitting they are some of the most majestic animals on earth. They are also keen hunters. Mutations could be head plumes, armor, jewerly, beak shape, wings shape, and particals that fly around. Genes could be based on herons, storks, and egrets, and other birds they could have the usual runes, and the cool looking tiger stripes and stuff that have nothing to do with birds.

A turtle would be nice cause they are such graceful swimmers.

And I'm just thowing this out there, an echidna or other spiny animal. Echindas are really cool animals, they look like an anteater, a hedge hog, and a mole, all bundled into one, and the results are fantastic.
