There's a frantic thrashing sound like something's trying to escape, but after awhile it stops.

I head toward where the sound is coming from, holding my spear out in front of me.

You push aside a few branches and see a bright yellow bird that looks like the one you saw in the guidebook stuck in some branches. When it sees you holding the spear, it opens its beak, makes that high-pitched noise, and tries to free itself to no avail.

I hurriedly put away the spear, and try to look non-threatening. I slowly approach it, and extend a hand.

I use my 'expert' detective skills to solve a majority of the words, copying them into my jounal, and start to worry there's no escaping this place. Setting the journal carefully where I found it, I pull out the guidebook. "Do you know anything about where we are?"
