After a while, he resurfaces with another mer-person who you can safely assume is his healer friend. "Still can't believe I'm working on my day off," she says with a tired grin. They're both carrying boxes on their backs and three packages covered in fish scales wound with rope between them. The man quickly unwinds the rope and hands one of the packages to you. "It's seaweed," he says. "You know, I could teach you how to treat a burn. It isn't too hard to learn. Only if you want to of course."

Your physical state is fine, your stomach is only a tad empty, but nothing too noticeable.

(yep. water might be needed occasionally if you wander away from civilization for long here, but it's up to you on the water one.)

(that is a mood, lol)
"Sure," I say, smiling a little. Learning to treat a burn could potentially be a useful skill in the future. I take the package, careful not to drop it as it's a little slippery from the water and the scales.

(Hmmz. Okay, I can work with that)

All good. I know what hunger feels like, and this is far from it - I can turn my attention to other tasks just now.

With no pressing matters to deal with, I find myself at a loss. I've rarely had moments like these in my chaotic life. I breathe in the scents of the street food around me, familiar and comforting as I consider what my plan is for today.

My life's quest is as important as ever, but... not right now. Instead, I'll head to a crowded place. Somewhere like a tavern where I can find out anything of interest. Jobs, rumours, tip-offs... that sort of thing. I'm not used to this place, so I'm going to take the cautious approach.

"Let's get a move on boys," the healer says.

When you come back, the crowd seems to be relatively unchanged from when you left it. The mermaid immediately starts tending to someone's burns while the merman goes to someone with a burned hand and begins demonstrating.

"First, hold it under cool water," he says to you as he uncaps the tube that extended from his box and water starts to run over the victim's hand. "Tell me when the pain eases," he tells them. When they tell him to stop, he covers the tube again and then opens the package he was carrying. "Then you dress the burn with seaweed, like this." He wraps the slimy seaweed around their hand. The victim does not seem to be happy about the aforementioned sliminess.

He repeats the procedure on someone else that has a small burn, but leaves the seaweed part to you. "I'll walk you through it," he says.

The patient seems unbothered by the fact an untrained person was doing this but then again the small burn didn't seem to bother them before receiving treatment. A little girl clutching their knee looks at you warily though.

South of the lake was a crowded meeting place surrounded by stoas with crumbling columns. There was a message board covered with advertisements and notices. Messages were also scratched into the wooden poles that supported it. People would do that to exchange gossip when they arrived here at different times.

A small inlet provided water to relaxing camels and mules. People were talking all around you, so it wasn't hard to overhear or ask for information.

"Have you heard about that continent those tribal people found?"
"Of course. Nour joined one of the expeditions in hopes of getting rich."
"Heard there were large beasts that lived in the water and marshes as big as the country."
"Is that true?"

"I'll take your camel for 90 debens. I'm going to need it to find the lost temple of Aban."
"Go ahead and risk your life out there, but not with my camel. It's the only one I have."

"I'm going to need a new delivery boy after Omar leaves to go on his little adventure. His waste of a father is too soft on him, he's going to die from his recklessness and naivety..."
"Indeed."

I wince at the small girl's suspicious glance. She's got all the right to be wary of me, of course- between my appearance and my impromptu training. I quickly move on though, I've got a job to get done and refuse to get tangled up in my own personal problems.

(Nah, don't reckon he'd have had time to learn. Having to do that at some point will be fun.
Also, are you talking about a twelfth of a deben? >.>)

This was exactly the sort of place I was looking for. I skulk around at the fringes of the mob as I listen in with interest. A new start, an expedition and a carefree boy. I hide a wince at the last one. Years, and that wound is still raw.

I consider those three for a second. I'm in no need of a fresh start in some new continent, my interests still lie in Nicria. The temple sounds promising. Fortunes to be found... maybe even one of Nicria's famed artefacts.

I'm analysing my options even though I already know the oppertunity I'll be pursuing. I curse the feeling of guilt that fades as I move to push my way over to the third conversation.

"What 'little adventure' could be so dangerous that you're acting like this Omar is already dead?" I ask, squaring my wings in an attempt to look bigger than I am.

You're in Pompodis where the statues of former Ensol Aminus and looming grey buildings overlook the country. Big clouds cover the sky and graze tall buildings which some wax winged dived into for fun.

It seems like tomorrow would be a day of snow, sermon, and relaxation for the people of Pompodis. Everyone seemed happier about the upcoming break as they went through their day. This didn't prevent those who guessed about your avian heritage on looking down on you during this carefree day, but to most you looked like a wax winged and nobody was really bothering you about it today.

Right now, you don't have any responsibilities or obligations to tend to and could do whatever you wished with your time.

(Does she still live with her parents? the edit was just to make it look less chonky)

You are able to do a fair job and the patient reassures the little girl, even making her giggle and look at you with less wariness. After a couple more times, the merman only needs to occasionally watch over you without having to jump in.

+ Medical Knowledge - You have learned how to treat burns

"We're finally finished," he says.

"Sure are. I feel bad for these folks, but I'm guessing the council had caught wind of this and will send more people to help out. I'm going to head back home now, take care you two," the mermaid says before leaving.

"Take care! Well, I should probably head back to Uniari with her, seeing as I don't have enough time to go all the way around to my home on land. Are you going to be alright on your own?"
