(oh God I totally feel you on the insomnia)
Ciki Verenda
She heard the quiet sounds of the footsteps, but it didn't bother her. She stayed dead silent, preparing to throw the knife hidden in her jacket to silence someone else. But for now it'd stay hidden. Her target was the man, and she silently moved towards the bed, preparing to slice his throat. She didn't have the patience for a messy kill.

Armand Atelier
Armand kept his eyes on the door as the deed was done. The footsteps slowed suddenly and his blood ran icy as he saw the face of a not a woman entering the room, but a man with cold, frosty eyes in the doorway. They seemed to glow with an inhuman malice.
A sheriff's badge hung at his overcoat. One he recognized well and despised. Armand drew his flintlock, waiting for him to step closer, but it never came. The man was trying with him, keeping his distance enough to throw off any shot he might take. He assumed, despite his careful precautions, he had been followed or ratted out, no doubt, but he'd be a dead man to let the law try to haul him off on a job.
Ezekiel Hawthorne
"Sure lucky I got a tip off from the missus at the bar. Maybe a moment too late though." He set his hand on the doorway, letting his silver, slit eyes wander from the now dead man to Ciki's face. "But I expected you to be alone once again, Mr. Atelier."

She inwardly cursed, realizing that he'd gotten a tip. This is precisely what happens when she doesn't work alone. ******s like this guy show up and try to arrest her. But she kept the same calm collected face she's had the entire time, as her cold gold eyes stared into his. There were two of them. Unless he could multiply, there's no way he would catch both of them.
And she was more than ready to throw her temporary partner, if she could call him that, under the bus.

(I'm really getting hung up character wise with Armand so I think I might end up rerouting my direction character wise until I get a chance to actually revamp him into something I'd enjoy writing for. Have a few ideas but I don't think I can use him as he is rn. Might be premature, but I'd rather just make a new character later. I'll continue on with Ezekiel because I like the idea of playing assassin vs assassin with a bad 'cop' for a while. Gives an element of chase and ends up kind of Sherlocky)

Like he'd let this green sheriff walk on in here. Armand rose his flintlock to fire at the man as it was suddenly shot out of his hand and a glowing knife was thrown swiftly into the elf's throat before he got a chance to respond.
Ezekial Hawthorne
As he stepped over to the sputtering man to retrieve the blade, he drew a handkerchief from his coat and wiped it clean. "There's one for the county bounty then. Now, miss, I don't expect you to come along calmly, but I wish to make it clear that I do not intend to draw you into a fight. Wounding a woman in such a manner would be a heavy weight on my mind."

(alright, I'm cool with that)
Ciki Verenda
She exhaled quietly, slowly beginning to back up into a dark corner. Usually she wouldn't use this ability unless absolutely necessary, but she sure as hell didn't want to end up like that guy. She backed all the way up until she was back to back with the wall. Her eyes glowed, and she stepped back once more, disappearing into the shadows.

Ezekial Hawthorne
Ezekial was rather amused by this, taking a curious few moments to examine the wall she had departed from. While everything seemed ordinary, there was still a lingering tinge of dark energy swirling in the air.
A magic user, no doubt. He smiled slightly to himself as he plucked the mask from the fallen dark elf as proof of his bounty for the department.
This woman, it seemed, would make for an excellent challenge. Much like a startled rabbit, it appeared there was no easy way to simply capture this one. For now, he'd give her a head start. The night was late and he had already grown weary in the winter cold tracking the two this far. He needed time to rest, and to think.

She emerged a couple of minutes later in a dark alleyway, pausing in her tracks as she realized she hadn't taken her whip. This would be fine, but when she'd gotten the whip 10 years ago, she never thought she would become an assassin. The whip had her named carved into the hilt, meaning if he looked hard enough, he would know who to look for, and that was a problem.
But as long as she stayed on the move, he couldn't find her. No, she wouldn't allow him to find her.

Ezekial Hawthorne
What's this? Ezekial knelt down to pick up the whip on his way to exit the bedroom. He turned it over in his hands, reading the engraving in the hilt with a bit of growing interest. Ciki. So the woman had a name after all.
Surely she'd need this back for the long road ahead, but for now, he'd be sure to take good care of it.
Ezekial made his way out of the estate, looking at his pocket watch on sight of the cracks of dawn in the sky. Hm.
It seemed for now, any decent amount of rest was out of the question. The day would break soon and so too would the woman's means of cover. He would need to return to the sheriff's office regardless in a couple hours to collect his bounty. She would not get far. This was assured.

She too glanced up at the sky, seeing signs of day arriving. She worked best in the dark hours, and unless it mysteriously became rainy, she'd be exposed. Usually she would return to her hideout, but she wasn't going to risk that area being compromised. She would have to stay on the move if she didn't want to get caught.
With a small sign she exited the alleyway, walking along the streets that, at this time were only filled with drunks scurrying back home to their angry wives. She had a sense it was going to be a long day. Longer than usual.
