Having lived her whole life in caves which had been carved into the vast mountain region thousands of years before she was born, Arokara knew little of the forest. She had been so ale addled last night that she barely remembered consciously choosing a direction...she had simply started walking. Now she was here and there was a peculiar noise that had penetrated the eerie silence. With a deep, slightly trembling breath, she...

a.) Look at the tree's branches

...slowly lifted her head up to peer into the branches of the tree she had been leaning on,
looking for the source of the clicking noise.

You carefully look up into the tree, and see a brown-skinned being perched in it, watching you with a wide smile revealing pearly teeth. It seemed male, but you couldn't be sure. The branches and leaves covered it in a way that all you could make out was the mouth and patches of skin along the neck and face and arms. You could detect a slight amount of movement where the hands should be, but they were too hidden for you to make out.

What do you wish to do?

a) Say something
b) Scream
c) Run
d) Attack it
e) Raise your hands in surrender
f) Other

Dwarven women were taught to defend themselves and how to handle various weapons. It was considered necessary to learn to use the things which you crafted. Living in the mountains could also be quite treacherous. However, she was also wise enough to realize that whatever type of being this was likely just defending his territory. She was the intruder here. Without taking her eyes off of the creature in the tree, she...

...took a few steps away from the tree, slowly lifting her hands up in the air and away from the axe at her side.

"I mean you no harm," she said as calmly as she could muster, "I'm just passing through."

"I protect you."

If possible, the being's pearly smile, so stark against the green of the leaves and brown of the branches and skin, grew even more. It was almost creepy. The voice was hoarse and unnatural, monotonous.

"You come into wood and you run and you trip and fall and do not get up. I set up against tree and put stuff down and you are safe and I protect."

From what you can tell initially about the room, it's small but not broken down. It looked almost humble. From your best guess, you thought this room could be part of an inn, but you weren't sure. As you focused on the voices, you were able to determine that there were definitely two voices. One was male, and the other female, slightly older. They seemed to be arguing, but it was low and not aggressive. You couldn't make out exactly what they were saying, though, only the voices.

What do you wish to do?

a) Say something
b) Stand up
c) Jump out of the window
d) Run
e) Leave the room
f) Other

Ylsonaa slowly shifts her weight, trying not to creak the bed, and stands up. Still in my clothes..? She thought. How odd. What happened? How did I get here... After a short moment of her thoughts, she tuned in to the conversation again, straining as much as she could, but gave up and quietly walked over to the window, looking outside in hopes of gaining her bearings.

When you stood, you could hear the voices a little better. They sounded human, but still, most of what they said was indecipherable. You did catch phrases like "...I'm running a business..." and "...Why can't you think?..." coming from the female voice.

After a moment, the voices fell silent, and then the female said something quiet that you didn't catch. Then, you heard a loud, dramatic sigh, and footsteps padding along wood outside of your room.

Ylsonaa stops and stands slightly aggressively, glaring at the door in a stony silence. She glanced to the side, noting her katanas laying against the wall a couple feet away and gently ran her fingers along the folds of her dress, feeling to make sure her pair of daggers sat where she kept them, hidden by the ruffles.

Within a few seconds, a young-ish teenage boy appeared in your doorway, holding a tray with bread and a cup of water on it. "Ah, you're awake," he said awkwardly, rubbing the back of his head with one hand before stepping inside and placing the tray on a small table beside the bed you had woken up in.

"My name is Harren. I apologize if you're uncomfortable, but I mean you no harm. You just...collapsed in the middle of our town, and I thought you'd appreciate a better resting place."

Hello, Harren. Ylsonaa greeted the boy with a stiff nod, but straightened her posture and walked over to the plate, looking at its contents. She sat down, still rather stiffly and alert, on the edge of the bed and reached for a piece of food on the tray. She examined it and decided it didnt appear to be poisoned, but lowered her hand to rest on her lap, still holding the morsel instead of raising it to her mouth. She turned her attention back to the boy. After a long moment of Ylsonaa staring at him expressionless, she simply said, My bag?

Harren offered you a nervous smile. "Your bag is right under the bed. I didn't want someone lurking about to snatch it. We, uh, we have a bit of violence in this town. That's part of the reason why I brought you to my sister's inn. It's better to be safe than sorry with everything stolen from you," he laughed, but it was strained.
