I switch my ring back onto whichever hand it was on before, and when I arrive in the ocean, I quickly pour the Vivid into the plastic bag.

It drops straight to the bottom, spreading out quickly, but it doesn't appear to be trying anything fancy like jumping out of the bag, even so, you close the bag just in case.
