Hmm, I like them but i wish the back scales were a tiny bit smaller. They seem like a mix between a horse, and a turtle XD

I'm trying to put on a brave face here and not.. you know.. cry in a corner about my favorite species getting revamped. :< Lol.
After seeing them together though finished.. I really have to agree with everyone that the scales do look too bulky for them. Like heavy armor weighing them down. I sorta wish the scales had a flatter, fish scale look like most of the asian style Kirin/Qiran drawings and sculpures tend to depict the scales. I don't think it's so much the size that bothers me, but the fact they look really thick and bulky and Kirin are usually depicted as very lithe, elegant creatures.

Yeah, I like the basic forms (especially the male) but the scales kill it for me. They look like they have a flat barnacle infestation. Maybe if the scales were smaller, as others have suggested, they would look better.

I am partial to the old design, but I do like the way the male looks. Something about the females body seems weird to me, maybe the way the back seems to just slant straight down just not sure, of course it could just be me. I also agree the scales seem a little large.
Great work though I can't wait to see the finished versions :)
