(Rushed to make this so I'm sorry if it's confusing or bad.) Aurora Ghouls Appearance
Aurora Ghouls possess the colors of the Aurora Borealis. They are most commonly seen with a dark purple body. A nebula looking pattern can be seen in a sea green on their sides and white jewels glimmering down. They seem to possess a lighter color of purple as runes on their skin. They seemingly cover the whole skin but blend in well.
A leaf crown is rarely seen on one of these ghouls but when it is the crown is usually a light purple like the ruins. Some of the leaves have seemed to fall down and enter the dark pink mist surrounding it's neck; making them swirl around as the mist carries on circling.
All colors of the ghoul varies depending on the Aurora Borealis. They seem to take inspiration or perhaps energy from it. Making them get the colors they do. This may be why the babies are born with almost a blank slate. Perhaps they do depend on the Aurora Borealis for their color; their individuality.
Baby Aurora Ghouls are born with a white body and black eyes. Keeping the color of the parents eyes which are always seen to be black. The rest of the colors should be there but they aren't; it's a mystery on where or how they get them.
General Information Adult Male
Height: 2' 3" - 2' 6"
Length: 3' - 4'
Weight: 130 lbs - 145 lbs
Behavior
The Aurora Ghouls are creatures of mystery. They don't show themselves until an Aurora Borealis shows itself. The creatures like to blend into the background; waiting to prey on an unsuspecting human. They shine their jewels brightly to attract children; leading them further and further away from the safety of society. They prey on the child closer to their home; their pack; and nobody knows the child is gone or where it is.
Aurora Ghouls tend to avoid adult humans; seeing as they are a threat to these creatures if they truly wanted to be. Though they will attack if they are with a group and the human is singled out. They think of these adults as a rare treat; something to be treasured. Only the best of the best get a taste.
This all plays into the rankings of the pack. It could be compared to a pack of wolves; it works the same. Children are protected until they aren't and at least one is at the lowest ranking. The hunters are the ones who go out every Aurora Borealis; collecting multiple children; enough to get the pack through until the next Aurora Borealis.
In the safety of their territory when the Aurora Borealis is not showing the pack male pups like to play fight; train their skills for when they hit the age to work for the pack or leave. The female pups are raised by the caretakers in a daycare area. They don't play fight like the males but instead are taken care of and groomed; learning how to groom and take care of their future mate and pups.
The adult males tend to get into fights with each other when the alpha male has not sent them out to find things for the pack; or for them to watch over the territory. The adult females and alpha female usually sit in a den and rest together; seeing as they are not allowed to leave and have no need either.
Habitat
The Aurora Ghouls live in secluded areas full of snow. They find an area with thick enough snow that would let them burrow in it and not collapse. They do this because it's easier for them to live in secrecy like this. They don't get cold or freeze because the mist around their neck provides a warmth that spreads throughout their whole body.
They like the find places near evergreens seeing as they can climb; the hunters watch over the territory from up high and the evergreens work perfect; they're also perfect for scouting anybody outside on the day of the Aurora Borealis.
This also means that they settle close to towns or populated areas that people visit for the Aurora Borealis. It's easier for them this way and it keeps them safe.
Legend
The Aurora Ghouls are said to have descended down from a fallen star a long time ago; before humans had even existed. The first one had traveled the land; every night howling at the moon; wishing for somebody of his own kind to keep him company on his journeys. After months and months of traveling the creature had arrived in a land full of snow.
He was starving; desperate; seeking a companion from somebody; something. He lied down out of sadness; it was painful for him to even want to continue on. The loneliness had taken a toll on him and he had looked up to the sky for what felt like the last time.
A weak howl escaped him as the sky seemed to burn with color; it was beautiful but sad. So very sad to him; knowing he would taint the snow under the sky that was glowing with color. The pain from everything felt like it could kill him; all he could do was close his eyes and hope for the best.
Little did he know that something above; a higher power had been watching. Watching him closely; deciding that he would grant this lonesome creature a chance to make something. So stars had fell; hundreds fell all over the world. Forming into Aurora Ghouls overnight; it was a true miracle.
The Aurora Ghouls had populated the planet; but the original Aurora Ghoul was gone. He had no chance to see the miracle that he was blessed with; all his hope was gone; ending with him leaving too.

General Information
The Azelphi are delicate, mystical creatures of light and air. It is said that times of great change, whether they be for the better or worse, are often preceded by the unique, once-in-a-lifetime sight of huge flocks (known as harbingers) of Azelphi taking to the skies in a mesmerizing display of grace and beauty. In fact, one would be extremely lucky to even witness an Azelphus in their life, as they have never been seen elsewhere in the wild, and have never left a trace of their existence, not even a wing feather, in their wake.
Physical Appearance
Azelphi have aerodynamic, slim black bodies that fade to a pale grey at the tail and neck. At first glance, their bodies appear to be perfectly smooth, but upon further inspection are made of a great number of minuscule scales. While resting, they tend to curl their tails and arch their necks upward. Their feet are webbed and reminiscent of amphibians, and have suction cups on the bottom that are used to clinging to any smooth surfaces, even vertical ones.
One of the most prominent features of an Azelphus are their lustrous, pale blue and yellow feathered wings. It is believed that their plumage helps them blend in with the sun and the sky, and that they preen their feathers often in order to keep them clean and in order. Their feathers are often thought to be waterproof, to allow them to fly in rainy weather. Azelphi do not hatch with feathered wings and instead grow feathers as they mature.
Another noticeable feature of Azelphi are their armor. Of course, this is not armor, but protective scales that grow heavier and sturdier as they mature. Hatchling Azelphi do not bear this 'armor', as it would be too heavy for them to fly.
Behavior
Obviously, the most known trait of the Azelphi is their tendency to appear very soon before a world-changing event. During this period of up to a week (it is thought that the longer they stay, the more impactful the change will be), they will take to the sky in large groups and perform beautiful dances in the air for no apparent reason. When this period is up, they will slowly disperse in large groups, not to be seen by human eyes until the next great change.
During normal times, Azelphi live in peaceful 'communities' with many other Azelphi families, much like human neighborhoods. Spring is the mating season for Azelphi, and during this time male Azelphi will perform elegant dances in the sky to attract mates. Hatchlings are born sometime during the summer, in clutches of 2-3 eggs per nest.
Hatchlings are natural fliers and can fly less than a week after hatching. A month after hatching, they will leave the next and live on their own until the next year's mating season.
If a creature larger than an Azelphus enters the grove where a community live, they will hide so quickly and silently that they seem to almost disappear. If hiding is not an option, they will immediately fly into the sky, where it is almost impossible to catch them.
Personality
While all Azelphi are different, they seem to be highly playful and enjoy doing aerobatics in the sky as a whole. They also exhibit a certain degree of vanity, as they spend much time preening their feathers and polishing their armored scales. They are very social creatures, especially the young Azelphi, often forming social groups of up to ten during their childhood.
Diet
Azelphi are strictly herbivores. They fill themselves with the green leaves of deciduous trees throughout the year. Though they are not picky and can eat almost any type of leaves, including those from bushes, but their favorite is that of the willow tree. A grove that is home to Azelphi stays green throughout the year, and the trees never die or run out of leaves.
Interestingly, Azelphi can eat leaves even just after hatching, and parents often select the greenest leaves from trees to feed their hatchlings.
Habitat
Azelphi live deep in deciduous forests. They love to nest in or near willow trees (see above), and are often found near small bodies of water. Being creatures of the sky, they are never in places where the tree cover is thick, instead choosing to make their homes in areas with less dense foliage.
As mentioned earlier, they live in large communities of other Azelphi. There are often between six and twelve Azelphus families living in one community.
Abilities
- It is thought that they can sense ripples of change in the universe before they grow large enough to affect the world, and this is when they lift off in almost magical displays.
- They are amazing fliers, capable of making hairpin turns and performing aerial acrobatics, for celebration, fun, and to attract a mate. Azelphi are also incredibly fast and aerodynamic, able to accelerate to high speeds in less than a second if a predator enters the area.
- Azelphi are creatures of magic, and while they do not exhibit magical powers, adult Azelphi naturally attract magical energy from the Sun that manifests itself in crackling lights around their bodies. This serves the purpose of shocking any predator that manages to come near them.
Legends
Ever since the world was created, there have been changes in its existence, good and bad, like the patterns of waves in the ocean. Many creatures fear change, as they are scared of an uncertainty that would disrupt their way of life and force them to adapt.
It is said that the Azelphi were created by chance, when the sun happened to filter through the clouds at a particular angle, and life was formed. Oddly, these creatures did not seem to be afraid of change. Instead, they craved it.
A change was a reason for celebration for these creatures, the only ones who seemed to embrace the inherent ripples in the harmony of the universe. Ever since, they've been showing their elation for change in their aerial displays, and ever time they appear, the sun seems to bless them by filtering perfectly through the clouds to illuminate their gleaming armor.
Random Information
- Azelphi 'takeoffs' have been recorded as far back as Egyptian times.
- Azelphi occasionally join dances to form almost choreographed patterns in the air.
- 92% of an Azelphus's bones are in the main part of its body.
- Azelphi do not seem to have preferences for weather, they have flown even in terrible storms with no hint of struggle.
- Azelphi eggs are decorated with gleaming jewels. Vines often grow around the eggs to keep them from rolling.
- Azelphi never lose their wing feathers. Hatchlings, however, have feathers on their tail for stability when beginning to fly that eventually fall off once they mature.
- Azelphi are constantly shedding the top layers of their armor as it becomes worn and growing new armor to replace it.
- When an Azelphus egg is struck by lighting, it is believed that the hatchling will have the ability to manipulate sunlight, however this has never been proven.
