The children were playing tag while their mother, the pedlar, was trying to sell things. It was probably a daily routine for them. They looked like they led a reasonably comfortable life. Not rich, but not poor either.
I smile and wave at the children before looking at the mother's wares
I try my best to remember if we needed anything for the ship, realizing i should have gotten a list

You'd need provisions to eat/ drink while on board, and maybe timber to fix any sort of damage to the ship if you were attacked, run aground or something else.
You had no weapons on board. They could either cannon or fight you to mercy then loot you. The crew looked worried, *should we steer her away Captain, Sir?*

"Umm... yes." Ivan said, still smiling. He turned the wheel and steered the ship away, humming to himself.

Head around the market and find anyone selling decently priced food or timber

You turned away and managed to avoid the bandits, you were heading straight down the middle. To the left, you saw a towns lights sparkling in the distance. you'd been sailing for four days now.

The market keeper was selling food, beverages and other things for trading - for provisions for sailing, you'd need to talk to the Port Official. That was what Vera had said.

"Look! It's land!" Ivan said happily. He looked over the water towards the town. "Let's hope I did not sail in a circle." he said, smiling.
