Nell looked at them, confusion ran threw her brain many of times and this was one thought, why the backpack? And the checker grass?

Aaladriel tilts his head in confusion, folding his arms. Wow, it's actually really hot in here.... crudbuckets. I should have brought different clothes. Also, what a strange room.....!

Tory made a scared squeak at the appearance of the child before looking down to examine the floor. She said nothing, though, waiting for someone else to make a move first. She was pretty sure the backpacks were for each of them, but she didn't know whether it was really that easy or if they were going to have to, dunno, play chess or something.

The girl turned her head to look over at each of the three people at the open shutter, holding out the three backpacks that corresponded with them in turn before making a 'come here' gesture.

She didn't mention or hint at anything to do with the grass but it probably had some sort of significance due to the fact half of the checker pattern was flattened down. That could maybe correspond to some sort of trap but it was also just as likely that it marked a safe place to walk...

(Dumb move time! weeeeeeeeee)
Tentatively, Aaladriel takes a step onto the grass, his foot falling upon a flattened segment.

The others look on in horror as the grass gave way beneath Aaladriel's foot, being too slow to move before he was knee-deep in the hole. That wouldn't be so bad except for the fact that the pit was lined with sharp shards of metal all down the edges.

Guess it's obvious what spaces NOT to step on now! To add insult to injury though the girl was now softly giggling...

Tory glances at the other girl before tentatively stepping onto a non-flattened segment next to the boy who had fallen through, looking for a way to get him out if the segment she's standing on seems to be safe.

The non-flattened segments seemed safe considering they didn't collapse under Tory's feet.
