To answer both of your questions:

I imagine the miasma as a dark purple fog. It's relatively stationary, but it often moves and expands without warning. The robots are ones of the creations meant to stop the miasma from taking over the world.

I haven't decided what the robots will look like - you're probably gonna get that kind of answer a lot. There are very few things I have actually 100% decided on at this point in time.

How would these robots slow or stop it anyways, since that would be really important I'm presuming.

The miasma acts very oddly around them, warping around them, following them, etc. Robots also are somewhat resistant to being corrupted by the miasma, as they don't have a body to corrupt, only a soul. People are hoping that the robots can find something.

Maybe, one robot (the main character) figures out a way to permanently shrink it, but doing so it is getting corrupted?

Oooo, maybe another choice could be to study it, since maybe there is something controlling it, hiding among the mist.
