First, let it be said and known that I am not an artist.

I took a couple of minutes to do a simple rotation of the arm while holding a sword:


Again, I am not an artist. This was done just by selecting the arm and sword and rotating them. If someone with even a little bit of artistic skill did the same, it would look much better.
Still, even with my nonexistent skill with art, this looks better than what the avatar actually does look like while holding most swords. Granted, it seems that most swords are too long to fit into the avatars allowed dimensions while angled like this.

If we can get other poses, be it by use of items or by some other means, it is possible to not break current items by only allowing new or unaffected (head items, for instance) items to be used with the new poses.
