Ahhhh so beautiful!~

I wish I could draw more realistic, my style is more anime/manga and I have trouble with proportions x3

Also with your drawings....are they all done traditionally? Or digitally?
Or do you do it traditionally, scan it in, redo the line art and colour it? Or just scan and colour?

What tools do you use?

Sorry for all the questions, just looking for ways to improve and different tools :)

Thank you~ And I'm fine with getting questions, so if you have any, ask away. :)
I'm also trying to pull myself into a bit more realism and working my way out of the anime/manga style, although we're doing it backwards, which makes it difficult. TwT (One is supposed to learn realistic first and then stylize it~ oh well. :O ) I have a difficult time with proportions as well~ I just BS a bit a lot. 0w0

All of the sketches I've posted so far have been done traditionally. I have been dabbling in digital too though recently, although I'm not very good at it. TwT It certainly helps with fixing mistakes. I tend to take different approaches, more or less just to experiment for now.

I took a screen of a few of my things below. The top left corner is a traditional sketch using blue .5 drafting mechanical pencil lead, the other colors are also .5 mech pencil lead, although I'm pretty sure you can't get most of them any more unless there's some art supply store that might have them hoarded away. (For Traditional: I usually use mechanical pencils, .3 or .5, never any higher then that. I'll sometimes use pen and sharpie marker, but never anything that will get all over my hands. 0n0 ) The bottom left is a freebie from gaia, pretty much drawn and painted in Photoshop CS6 with flat colors. The middle is a digital sketch, done in PS CS6, that was a rough traditional sketch just to get the pose down; most anatomy issues were fixed and details were added when I actually went in to do a serious sketch. The bottom right is something like the middle one, only I've actually painted in the sketch and am working on trying out painterly style and slowly working towards realism (I need to rework his eyes still).

So I suppose I do all of the mentioned at current? More or less, just try to experiment and find something you like~ :) I really wouldn't be the best person to ask for improvement though. I still have a ton of improving to do myself~ Hope that helped at all. TwT

Thanks for answering those questions :)

They were really helpful! I think my mech pencil was a .7 or something I'll see if I can get a new one on Tuesday (Monday is a public Holiday). I'll see if I can get a smaller one so I can get better detail in :)

I might experiment drawing dragons and take a better look at proportions.

Also have you ever tried SAI or did you find photoshop better?

No probs~

As far as lead thickness goes, go with what's most comfortable. I've got a friend who'll use my pencils and every time her pencil touches the paper, the lead snaps. XD .3 is really difficult in that sense unless you can control your touch~ although using .3 and .5 if you're used to .7 might help you master how much pressure to apply for line thickness and shading.

If you're going to experiment on dragons, I'd recommend the Dragonology books if you can find them. They're great artistic reference~ It'll also help to study lizards, since dragons pretty much are just overgrown reptiles. ;)

I've never used SAI because I use a MacBook and SAI doesn't like Mac unless you download even more software so that you can run windows on Mac. Even so, I quite like Photoshop, so I don't see me changing that. :) (I've tried ArtRage Studio and Manga Studio as well, but I prefer PS over those.)
