Well I think I know where your vote is going, to Malamute and Husky mixes right?

If you're not considering getting any other dogs, I'd say an Akita might be alright as a service dog, but if you want other dogs you might want to consider a different dog, as Akitas tend to be very DA. You also have to be suuuper careful about the Akita you get; some are HA as well, which is bad.
If I were you, my top choices would be a Newfie, Lab mix, or Rottie. Newfies are huge, but they're sweet and easily trained, and are natural "rescue" dogs. I don't know where you live, but if there's a danger that you might be dropped in water and you can't swim, a Newfie is your best chance at rescue.
Lab mixes are the most common because of how easy they are to train, so you probably already know that.
If you're wanting something that can help you out in both the physical aid and guarding department, look carefully into a Rottie. Because they're big and intimidating, people tend to stay away, but their hearts are as big as their stomachs; personally, I've never met a Rottie I wouldn't love to have with me. They're my second favorite after pit bulls, and they're easy to train.
Another good choice for you, if they're not banned, might be a Doberman Pincer. They're strong, athletic dogs, and are good guarders. They'll be sure to keep away any creeps, and they train well.

I would really only concider an Akita mix at this time, in part due to what you had mentioned.
I have Labs/mix, and a number of other dogs in a list in a post further up in this thread. :)
A Newfie mix would be possible where I live(largely because I don't think any breeders are local), but they are a giant breed dog so a mix would be prefered anyway.
Labs and lab mixes are common, but still awesome.
I LOVE Rotties, and have never had a bad experance with them, but I do know that not all Rotties are pleasant. I'd be leaning more toward a Rottie mix cause Rotties can get up to like 130 pounds, and they can have some bad heath problems.
While I love Dobies, and wouldn't mind having one, but my little sister(who I'm super close to) has a phopia/very intense fear of Dobies. And I'd really like her to still be able to come over, so sadly they aren't an option at this time.
I'll be updating the tally/vote post in this thread so there will be a way to help see what breeds are in the top of the list.
