The most popular pet is generally whatever is newest. Zolinxi is a crowd favorite though.
My guess,
Least popular are: Draeyl, Morkko, Kelpari, Lunemara
Most popular are: Vulnyx (b.c. new due to redraw), Nephini, Zolinxi, Aerdini

A good general guideline as to which is most and least popular at any time is to check the broker and see which essences are consistently the cheapest for that time and which are most pricey. In the diamond shop all essences cost the same, but on the broker the prices vary widely.

Personally, I can't stand the Morkkos, and from what I've seen that's a fairly common opinion on the site, and generally the older pets are the least popular, with the exception of Zolnixies (though I don't really like them, other people seen to).

I think the problem with the Morkko is its pose and the fact that it looks so chunky/clumsy, "like a square canvas."
The Morkko male is just standing there foursquare, glaring. Compare this to the Faelora buck, holding his head high to display his rack, neck proudly curved. Or the Zolnixi todd, front feet primly together but hind feet well apart, ready to dash in any direction, while his ears, nose, and eyes all focus like a laser on something that has his attention. (His sly little smile doesn't hurt his look, either.)
The female Morkko appears to have both left feet on the ground and both right feet just coming up from the ground. This depicts a real gait (way of moving the legs), which is called pacing. Unfortunately, this is not a natural gait for a large, heavy, powerful quadruped. Even to viewers who don't know this about such creatures, the female Morkko's pose looks weird and unbalanced.
Even though bears rock forward-and-back when they run, they are actually graceful animals--heavy and powerful, but graceful. There's a YouTube video of a mother bear running down a young elk that illustrates this grace very well. I won't link to the video because it shows the kill, which I know some folks would rather not see. But the video is titled, "Grizzly Mother Bear Chases Down Elk - Most Shocking Kill."
There are so many poses for a bearlike creature: reaching up or down with one front claw, standing on hind legs, trotting, running, sitting, turning to look back...I think Morkkos would be more popular if they actually looked more bearlike, as in more graceful, and had interesting poses.
Wow, that's practically an essay, but I'm sitting here waiting on a phone call.
BTW, does anyone besides me think Sylestia could use a really BIG mammalian pet? One based on elephants, rhinoceroses, and hippopotamuses, for instance?

For things like elephants, rhinos and hippos we were going to wait until we were in the appropriate climate region. So say once we get to the jungle area, we would add those types of pets into the game. :)

Ooh, that's very exciting news! Oh, and I bet we'd get a penguin or seal or something in the frozen regions. Cool!

I actually don't mind morkkos that much. The adult male morkko always seems to have his battle face on. :P I don't keep a lot of them though, because I know I won't make that much money off them. The few I do have, I only keep around because I like them and they help add some variety to my stables.
