Incoming two cents, watch your heads, folks.
I'm actually all for not being able to recolored themed pets, my reason simply being, their special colorization is what makes them unique. Without that, the only thing they have going for them is a line of purple text. As things are, people are certainly able to change the colors of the themed pet entirely, and that's something I've quietly accepted. I may not like it, but that's their decision. In cases where I can easily tell it's a recolored pet, I won't touch it.
I might use a similar argument to this; If you don't like not being able to recolor the pet, don't get one. Or better yet, get an essence, and make it look exactly the same, just without the colors you didn't like. I feel there's no need to change the colors of the themed pets. /vent
But, this is my way of thinking, and imposing my way of thinking is something I shouldn't do. It would be restricting options to the people who want to change the colors of their themed pets, whatever their reasons may be. There's a thing that was often said on a site I used to be part of, that I really took to heart. "Don't change how I get my enjoyment out of this game". Basically, doing something that would prevent others from being able to play the game in the way they want to, is something that shouldn't be done just because it annoys someone else. Unless, of course, it's something being done with exploitative or malicious intents, and I very much doubt that anyone's recoloring themed pets for these reasons.
Everyone enjoys things differently, and what one person hates, someone else might adore. When you have a game with a lot of different options of what you can do, and so much freedom to go with it, everyone can make their own niches to fill and have fun with them, and we shouldn't put restrictions on that.
That said, I feel adding a marker would be a fine, middle-road option. For breeders who want to make sure the tagged pet they're about to breed with wasn't altered, such as a person like me, it would be extremely handy to know. It's one of the ways I get my enjoyment out of this game.

Well said, Vevina.
And I'm all for marking the themed pets as dyed. It's win/win all around for everyone.

Support for a dyed marker!
I'd love it if there was dyed marker added to tagged themed pets that have been dyed/altered. We already have a marker to show if it's been mutated. Why not when it's been dyed?
As a person that breeds themed pets almost exclusively, there is nothing more disheartening to find out you have bought or paid money to breed with a themed pet that has been altered. It messes with the whole breeding line you have established. Since that pet isn't considered to be pure by most people's breeding standards (myself included), it can be quite cumbersome to try to weed out the pets bred from the altered themed pet.
Prime example:
My very first tagged "Mossy Kelpari"
I bought her off of the search function when I first started playing Sylestia. I was new and buying pets from past festivals that I had missed - trying to play catch up. Being new I had no idea that her colors were not the correct theme colors. Then as I started buying more of them I realized that something was afoot and that her coloring was not just a variation or quirk. Of course by then it was too late and I had already purchased the pet. If there had been a little dyed icon on her then I would have known that she had been altered prior to purchasing her and I could have used my hard won newbie gold on a different purchase.

Hehe, I'm still convinced that some of the themed pets of the Fall Festival are bugged. There's countless 'Spooky Ryori' that were caught prior to the Spooky's release. None of the colors match, but it still got the tag once tags were implemented long after the festival ended. 99.9999% sure mine was the first, found and caught barely two minutes after the admins announced the addition of the themed ryori over region chat. I highly doubt there were 13 caught prior to mine within so short a time and all color dyed away from the theme.
There's other species as well, and the bugged ones are all limited to ONLY the FIRST variation of the Fall Festival Pets, and ALL have the earliest pet ID's of the themes meaning they were captured the earliest. None have any colors of the theme. And it's highly unlikely that about 15+ different people would spend a minimum of 10 pet dyes on themed pets just to change them
Here's a full list of the ones I picked out a while back on bug reporting if you're curious. Noticed it just after the pet search was released. Yours is on the list as well. So it wasn't so much of being scammed, it happens to be a once-in-a-gametime bug! A million times more rare than an actual themed pet in my opinion. :D

Huh, that makes a bit more sense regarding my Mossy Kelpari. I just couldn't imagine anyone using 10 dyes to change all the colors on a tagged festival pet. Neato :D
(ahem, but I still support a dyed marker lol)

I agree with this 100%. Having a marker to let you know that a pet has been dyed would be really helpful.
This plus the tags for purebred offspring, would both make themed breeding so much easier.
