As a themed pet breeder, this is honestly just something that annoys me. Why get a tagged themed pet if you're just going to change a color on it? It's a waste! Kills the entire purpose of a THEME!
And more importantly, it can be detrimental to themed breeders when they search for tagged themed pets that are set for public breeding! One wrong color from a botched breeding with a recolored themed pet, and every pet down the generations will be corrupted. Seeing themed pets ruined with a color dye makes me cringe, and when they're up for public breeding there's no telling how many people breed with them assuming that it's still a 100% pure themed pet. When it ISN'T.
So I suggest setting themed pets where you CAN'T change their colors with dyes. Or where changing the color REMOVES their themed tag, since it does in fact change them away from the themed colorscheme. If not out of respect to the theme itself, then for the sake of people who are looking for themed pets to breed with and end up corrupting their whole project without having a clue that they're doing it.
Notice to the world: YES, I am extremely passionate about this. Since my first festival on Sylestia I've worked on 6-vis themed pets and succeeded in breeding the FIRST 100% pure 6-vis for four themes already, and I have many more in the works. So pardon me if this doesn't matter in the least to you; to me, it's the reason I play. :)

I completely agree with this! I enjoy the themed pets that come out a little wildly different because of the colour swing, but I don't want to have to guess as to whether the neat colour variation I see is actually a legitimate swing mutation, or someone just recolouring the themed pet. If you want certain colours on a pet, there are tons of normal wild pets to pick up and recolour. Why not use those instead of removing the whole purpose of the idea of a 'themed' pet?
So yes, I agree that dyeing should be disabled on these pets, or the tag should be removed if the pet is dyed.

For the most par,t i agree with this.
HOWEVER
There are some times where a dying is needed just in order to see the gene.
For example:
Meet Frozen Sky
She is a 3 vis, tagged chilly paws puff. However,as you can tell by looking closely, her totemic runes blends in with her bernese to a point where it is only visible in some spots (specifically, the few bits at the feet where bernese does not cover)
In her particular case, i would need to dye her runes just to be able to see they are there at all. (The only reason i haven't is because personally, i am fond of her just the way she is. I experimented with lightening or darkening the runes just to be visible, but i kind of like having it just visible in some posts for the time being)
Taking away the ability to dye themed pets would mean that in a case like Frozen Sky's, someone who really did want to see that totemic runes would be highly disappointing, since there would be no way to change it.
I do agree that drastic color changes can really cause issues for those of you who do breed themed pets. Maybe making it so that a themed pet can only be changed within a color swing range of the color already there? (if that makes sense. Like resetting the color as if you had just encountered the pet for the first time)

Taking Lost's sort of post into account,
pets are pets. They're just like any ol' pet you catch (or win from the wheel if you get it from there, or auction or what have you). They function like regular pets, can be philtered, leveled, point-allocated, and yes, dyed.
Whatever you wish to do with them, that's up to you. Whatever an owner wishes to do with theirs, it's up to them, as the owner of their pet.
While I think it's pretty "malicious" to ruin what people consider "purebred", I do think there's a certain responsibility breeders have to withhold for themselves against others.
a) It's the responsibility to be aware of who's breeding to who, and full awareness of what they're breeding with, if they so care (and by the first generation of offspring, it's dyeable, so...is it really necessary to put a block when it can be easily altered at the next level)
b) There's no stopping a pet to breed to another, unaltered themed pet.
Responsibilities and free will aside,
I can kinda see the logic in putting a lock on the colors of themed pets. Because they're themed. But themed pets are just pets with fixed templates, a special treat that was programmed without any foreseen problems. And thank goodness there's a tagging system now, or else we wouldn't be able to tell precious themed pets from precious NOT-themed pets. Because there's a difference, which might mean a lot to some, more than others.
But what happens to a themed pet is up to the owner. And other users should see that, whether it's a good thing or a bad thing. The user doesn't even have to utilize the pet just for its tag. The user doesn't even have to breed with it (for that ONE TL aeridini dyed black, there's perhaps the rest of the other TLs that most users didn't even THINK about dyeing).
I don't think this is a major problem, but those are my points. I know this is a suggestion, but just, y'know, raising em.

What if I added a marker that said if a pet's been genetically dyed or not?
It wouldn't be retroactive, though.

This is ThunderGoBoom, a Thunderstorm Griff. I dyed his chest white. Why? Because I think it looks a whole lot better than gray and he's mine and I can pretty much do whatever I want with him. He's also a 1 gold breeder for the public. And unless someone is holding a gun to people's heads and FORCING them to breed with him, I don't see the problem.
I spent MY money for MY diamonds to get MY themed Griff off the wheel. If I want to dye him pink and purple then I think I should be able to. If you don't like re-dyed themed pets, don't breed with them.

I like that suggestion, Krin. Then, those who do want to dye (for the reasons given above, or others) still can, and those of us that don't want colour-altered themes as part of our breeding programs can easily see if dyeing as occurred.

If you do that, I'm afraid it might decrease the value of the themed pets which some people don't want to happen...
I actually see no problem about coloring themed pets. If a player see themed pets' color that he/she doesn't like open for breeding, he/she can just skip them. There is no one would force him/her to breed him/her pets with them, is there?:/

I support marking dyed pets! Then everyone still has their freedom to do what they want with their pets.

Marking them as a dyed pet would definitely be a much-loved improvement. <3
