Cole smiled and moved his hands so Strike could see.

All that was left was a raging inferno, but there was one book that wasn't burning. Saerien leapt into the flames, grabbed it, and leapt back out. After setting it down, he said, "I didn't know these even existed anymore."

"It's a grimoire, one full of ancient spells on a level of power none alive can comprehend it," Saerien said, "Du Domia abr Vanyal."

Saerien shifted to a gryphon, and opened the book. As he looked at the first page, it flashed bright, temporarily blinding him. He shifted to a draconian, and opened it again. This time, he was able to actually read it.
(As a draconian, Saerien is phototropic, meaning he gets energy from light. The light hitting his eyes actually helps him.)

"I'm not sure. I recognize the language, but I haven't seen it in more than a millennium. I'll have to hit the books to translate it," Saerien said, closing the book reverently.
