Hey, i have a plan that might make judgeing easier.

What you could do is judge them in diffrent groups, like this:

Group 1: Anatomy
Group 2: 'Feel'
Group 3: Creativity
ect, ect.

That should help since the same piece might appear more than once, and so you can choose the rank of the artwork easier. I think. It's worth a try, isn't it?

(Yay, I can speak! :p)

I think Loveroanimals has a good idea there. Most pieces of art that are judged for contest go through a similar process. It's much easier to break down the parts of a piece and then add all the points up at the end. That's essentially how my projects in my Printmaking classes were graded (and boy it was always hard to get a ten in concept/creativity. I think I've only gotten that once lol)

Anyway, it's ultimately up to you on how you judge the contest. I was just supporting Lover's idea, as I think it could help.

Actually I already have and I normally judge like that, it's just I just haven't decided in first, second, or third place yet...

...though mostly i am trying to figure out how i am going to write this out because I really don't want to hurt any of your feelings

I can't really say for anyone else, but I'm a big girl and I know how to put my big girl panties on by herself. I've entered enough contest and have had enough critiques to not be affected by negatively. Sure it's disappointing if you don't win, ect., but it'll be ok. Other opportunities will show themselves.

That's my outlook on it anyway. So just be honest, and most people will understand.

..can I just admit something? I've actually had the judging done in my mind for a bit, but I'm just trying to figure out how I'm going to place some of you guys...

I do plan on first making a brief comment on everyone's entries, and then reveal who won and so on..

*sigh*....but the problem is...okayt this is going to sound really silly but... I just don't want to hurt any of your feelings, I mean I loved everyone's entries but realistically speaking, I can't give you all first place, and yet at the same time, it's not a proper art contest if I did so...

...and I can't sugarcoat my comments on each of your pieces too much either, I just don't want you guys to feel upset though since these comments i will be talking about....what I liked or did not like about it...

Like for a quick example, one of you guys had really good anatomy and shading but did not convey enough emotions....

Because honestly I also have to look at your pieces and ask myself 'if I did not know who this character's story is, will I be able to tell just by looking at your piece?'

And I really want to first post up the comments on each piece and then go into who won and stuff since I'm sure you guys would like to know my thoughts on your piece....

But yeah, I do hope you understand, and I really don't want any of you guys to feel upset..... :/

(And yes...before you ask, this is my first art contest I've hosted which had a lot of people join in and put effort into their art....yeah, have hosted some before, just not as many people joined in or took it seriously, you guys....are the first to be honest so I suppose I do have a reason to feel a bit more...erm...sensitive about hurting your feelings? Because a lot of you guys draw way better quality than the contestants in my old contests? Not that theirs was that bad but it did not give me much if any 'oomph' to it, I mean for yours I could genuinely feel the effort in a lot of your entries)

Just for you to know, I utterly LOVE constructive criticism. I know I'm not a god of drawing, and when people point my mistakes, it makes me way happier that "that's so good" or "U sux" =P because that's the way you can get better !

So, I won't be mad at you for anything you say, as long as it comes from the heart *hugs you, and pat your head* it's okay ^^

Have some cake.

You shouldn't feel bad about critiquing. Like Dei said, I'm not going to keel over because of criticism or not winning. It was fun to enter this contest and try drawing something new.

And considering that I've only started seriously drawing for a little under a year now, I could really use constructive criticism to help structure my drawings. Too many people sugarcoat their comments on my art. It'd be nice for someone to approach it seriously and realistically, for a change. This is one of the biggest reasons I enter art contests.

So no sweat. My feelings aren't easily hurt anyway ^o^

I feel the same as everyone else. I know that I have a lot left to learn in art and criticism is one of the best ways to get on the right path, especially when you put a lot of effort into truly making it a educational critic, so I wouldn't worry about it too much Night. Everyone supports your decision, even if they did not win. After all, I had fun, and I got to try something new, so it was worth joining.
