Since it is not attacking him in a vicious way, Evan stays rooted to the spot, looking all the way around the place, and taking in every detail of the animal next to him. If he was lucky, and finds a piece of wall he could climb or jump over with its powers, he could change into the creature just long enough to jump over or crawl over, or whatever, the walls. And then he would tell the cat to follow him because he was getting attached to the feline.

You seem to be walled in, however there are no corners and it extends far above your head.
You feel bumps on the wall in one area.
