There are many sticks covering the ground. You find one that doesn't seem very burned and prod the nearest tree. Nothing happens other than a bit of blackened bark crumbling off.

Some more falls off, and it reveals perfectly unburned bark. Seems the tree is still growing, but nothing unusual.

I examine the tree, looking for any unusualness. I open the guidebook again. "Do you have any helpful input on this? Key word is helpful, mind you."

It looks pretty normal other than the fact that the burned part is only one one side, and so are all the others.
This is a young phoenix maple, a species unique to this region. Phoenix maples are known to be very fire resistant and recover quickly from burning, hence the name.

There's no table of contents, and the page is blank. Then writing starts to appear, beginning on the left page instead of the right as most books usually do.
