For a split second, I try to focus on how his whole body was orientated to guess where he was gonna attack instead of where his gaze was. Then I try to dodge accordingly.
You notice that although his claws are aiming for your underbelly, his body is turned towards your tail.

I stop, my wing beats faltering "l-lets make a plan first Saffron" I mutter
She nods, still looking mournfully at the ground. You land and try to make a plan.
