Maybe it's to encourage logging in every day instead of just for the whole week? Or to increase the rarity of the resulting pet, only for the lucky folks who log in on the right days or those who log in every day...

I thought it has something to do with the slot on the bottom of the pet where it says costume. I barely noticed that yesterday.
