The Lupora climbs off you and sits on the floor, her tail wagging happily as she nuzzles you. She seems to have taken a liking to you!

As you attempt to put the simple key into the lock, there seems to be some sort of forcefield preventing you from putting it in. The same happens with the fancy key.

Examining the map, you see a few distinct areas. On the edge farthest away from an illustration of a town, which must be where you are, is a drawing of a castle. To get to it, you'll have to go South through a desert, down a river, and over some mountains. To the West is the dense forest, to the East is a meadow which turns into a marsh before leading to the sea, to the North is a cluster of mountains surrounding a lake.

Which way do you go?

As you follow it, you notice that it seems uncertain, and perhaps even a bit scared; pausing and changing directions frequently. Eventually, it curls up under a bush, whining quietly.

"Ah, so travelers frequent this town?" I rub my chin in thought. "Does this town have much to offer for common travelers? I'm not sure how I ended up here, but I'd like to find something to do or something of interest."

The pegasus waits for you to finish drawing. You know, I could just tell you what the runes do, now that I'm here. It says. When you ask for clarification, the winged creature sighs. I often forget that this world is a secret to other realms. Basically, long story short, whenever this world is in danger, a portal, which is sentient, searches for someone it deems worthy from one of the many other realms. And no, not even I am sure how the portal is sentient.

Confused and curious as to how you became an elf you

The woman's expression becomes a bit more serious. "You seem to misunderstand. Travelers originate here. This is the Center, a waystation. We fear the coming of a traveler here, not because they cause danger, but because it means She has no other choice. In this world, wanderers and travelers are two very different things. Travelers do not come from this world, and seldom stay here." She explains, before excusing herself to pull her child from the fountain.
