I have older pets, like my starters or gifts from friends when I first joined, that I love but can't use in combat. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
My suggestion is a stat-swap option, so you can for instance buy a max-stat, then swap their stats with your older pets. It would of course have to make them infertile, because otherwise it would be too easy to cheat max-stat breeders, but that way it could be a way to make your old pets viable again.

I'm sorry, but I don't support. This would make completing personal projects WAY too easy.

I would think this would lead to too many max stats being bred and the value greatly going down.

The only way I see this being viable would be if stat swapping came as a rather expensive diamond shop item that would swap the stats of one pet to another and would infertilize both pets in the process.
My worry about this, though, is that it would encourage the breeding of low caliber, ugly, trait-less max stats to be sold cheap just for use with these swappers. And once that happens.... well, the market for beautiful, well thought out, highly traited max stat projects would likely take a large hit.
I think that the only thing I would really advocate this for would be to allow a stat swap between a max stat and a starter sylesti. Since starters can't be sold, this would allow one stat swap per user and would just be a nice way of making your starter pet stay on par with other fighters. Since a person couldn't just make all their pets max willy-nilly with this, it wouldn't really hurt the max stat market. However, with it being locked to one pet only... I'm not sure how this item should be obtained. It wouldn't be worth having a diamond shop item.... maybe as a perk for hitting a certain number of days of logging in? Or some other benchmark? (I hesitate to make it battle, or nurturing, or breeding related since people play this game in many different ways).
Anyway, those are my (possibly disjointed) thoughts XD (Have a headache, so may not be the most coherent answer I ever made XD)

What if, and I am going off the cuff here, instead of it only being for starters, instead it could be used on any pet, BUT it made those pets infertile, AND account bound? Plus, it being an expensive diamond shop item (I mean expensive, like more expensive than the genetic kits)?
Wit hthe cost to making max stats, not only in actual money but in time, I don't think that there would be a huge market for ugly pets with max stats, because the players couldn't benefit from just willy nilly making their pets max stat.
IE, it would cost say 2K diamonds PER PET, plus whatever it costs to obtain the max stat in the first place, AND those pets would become infertile AND account bound.
Either that, perhaps make it a temporary swap? IE I have a max stat and another pet, I pay to swap their stats, but if I should try to breed or sell the pet, I get a message about 'do I want to do this, this will revert your pet back to its original stats?'

Oh! I really like that idea! a 2k diamond price tag would make it something you really wanted to do, and making the pet account bound after means you're only likely to do it with a pet you'd never want to sell anyway. I really like that! And it makes it so people *can* buy as many as they want, but aren't likely to do it for more than a few truly beloved pets (plus, they can't breed or sell that pet to 'easily' profit off of it).

Exactly, I know i would love to make my first team max stat so I could use them, but they aren't.
