I have based these designs on my betta fish named Ulysses. I was wondering which one you think is better. Which species makes a better betta (Siamese fighting fish)?

Between these two, the kelp feels more beta fish. I think it is mostly due to the wings on the kelp looking more fin like.
If I was going to try making a vorpa beta fish, I would probably go with some of the water dragon traits. Like this:
That said, I still think the kelp reminds me of a beta fish more. Lol

The kelps better but I would probably add another more vibrant gene to it. Right now they both feel a little bare.

I have followed the advice of Faeyla. Thank you so much.
I tried out some different gene traits to give him more colours but it didn't work out so I had to keep it the same. If Ulysses looked different it would have worked. I might try some more betta designs that let me do this such as a koi betta. I do appreciate the feedback I will tag you when I make another betta design that follows your feedback Duckbunny427.
I made two based on my first betta too.
