Hello, I'm Lucian...and at the age of 25 I was told by my eye dr. that I was legally blind in left eye, and that my right eye was not really all that much better. I do have glasses that I am able to wear when I'm not dealing with a migrain, I also have a white cane for the blind/visually impaired. Additionally I'm working on training my service dog in training Noah to dog guide(seeing eye dog) tasks to help me. I think that my left eye is at a -350, and I can't recall exactly what my right eye is. I am a mother, and artist, and a writer, so my vision has always been very important to me, and the thought of loosing my ability to see entirely regeardless of how fast or slow I'm loosing it is to say the least very unsettling. I want to see my daughter grow up, I want to see some day that letter from a publisher saying that my book is being published, and I want to see the faces of the people who love my art...as well as the faces of my friends and family...I both hate being visually impaired and fear the day when even glasses will no longer aid me.
I have other medical problems that make my daily life harder, however the failing eye sight seems to be the fastest progressing problem.
Several years ago when I first learned that eye sight was going down hill, I saw a documentary on how some blind, and visually impaired people use a limited version of sonar via toung clicks to helpto navagate. I later asked a visually impaired/blind friend if this did help. I was told that if your allert enough, and your hearing is go enough that it can help, but as a secondary method of navigation.
I was wondering if I had any fellow visually impaired/blind people here that I could talk to so that maybe we can create a support system, share tips, and techs on how we deal with being blind or visually impaired.
Thanks for reading.

I am. XD And I told you before. :3 My left, well, your right, eye is at about 250, the last time I checked. My right, your left eye is at 300 or so? Honestly, I wouldn't care too much if I went blind in my right eye because I'm more dominant in my left. I can't stand much sunlight. Just saying! I have a white cane as well, but I need a longer one. I don't use it too much because I don't go out too much. I don't wear any glasses. None work, really. Also, even if I see poles and stuff in the way, I tend to go smack into them, getting out of the way too late...heheh... Guess I just don't realize how close they are until...! I also love to draw a lot, watch anime (subbed, though I pretty much ignore 50% percent of the text, but no one likes dubbed), read (on the ipad using 70 pixel font), and what a normal person would do. Yup. I have enlarged schoolwork and textbooks, too. I couldn't find my right literature textbook volume because the normal was huge and they had to separate them into different parts...and it took me quite a while. >.< I have normal friends who don't really care how I'm different. I also have friends from a blind/visually impaired camp I've gone to for a few years, and one I have her DA account username somewhere.
Oh yes, a completely blind and cute boy I knew in camp clapped his hands to estimate distance and stuff. Though anyone could do that. Oh, I know this is random and pretty common, if you really have bad vision or just at night and want to pour glass of water, put your finger where you want the water to stop and pour away. This is a thick anyone could use, honestly. XD
There is an app called Read2Go on the ipad/iphone where there are tens of thousand books you can read, with great customizing options for text. Some books have images. There is also an audio read to you thing as well. I'm not sure, but I don't think it's free. There is no manga or comic books, but there are some manga drawing books and other drawing books.

Thanks Crystal for commenting here, I have lost track of which of my friends here sahre the same visual challenges that I do. Most of my offline friends aren't visually impaired or blind so they have a hard time understanding at times that I have a tough time dealing with it sometimes.
I have used the clicking tech that I learned from the documentery, and that helps me out loads. I thankfully do great seeing in the dark. But bright light and direct bright sun light hurt my eyes like crazy, so I'll have to get sun glasses soon.
I just really like having a support network and knowing who I can talk to on my tough days is very helpful.

It's going to cost me like $80 for prescription sunglasses, but I need to see my eye dr again before I buy them to make sure that the lenses I need have changed or not in the last two years.
Hope you find your sunglasses, and yes sunhats are great!

I am by no means blind, but I don't have the best eye sight in the world. I have bad eyes to the extent were I can't read the white board at the front of the class unless I sit really close, and even then I have trouble. It's totally fixable with glasses. Even knowing how frustrating it can be when I forget my glasses, I have no idea what it would be like to be legally blind.
*more snuggles*
I hope things work out for you with your dog and everything else.
The one tip i can give is try to buy your glasses online. I buy mine at zenni optical and they are pretty cheap there.
