Warning: These rambles may get long and out of hand.

So we've come this far. To the point we kill wolves for the fun of it. They aren't harming any animals much, and what I tell you may change your opinion for the rest of your life.

First off, this video link below is an example of what we do. And why are we doing it? For the nice decor?

I cried after this short animation. This is an example of what humans do. If you were the mother wolf, would you do anything, even die, to protect your children? I know I would.

I'm going to explain to you why wolves do more good then harm to their prey.

Wolves only eat the sick, old, and weak prey. Keeping the young and healthy generation alive. This keeps the moose and elk and other animals in good shape. Wolves will not eat the young ever. Or the mothers. If they are starving, they could eat a younger than old one that isn't a mother or a child. Think about this.

Wolves are essential animals that are doing more good than harm. So why do we kill them? Why do we harm them? Now you know that they are needed, and maybe more people will stop killing wolves. I hope so.

If you have a Facebook, write something like this and add these hashtags:
#Standforwolves
#IAmEssential

Write this post anywhere else you can. People actually harm wolves, and I hope you're not one of them.

I agree! Have you ever read Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat? It's a really good book about what your talking about. Basically a scientist is sent to Canada to see why the elk population was declining. Everyone blamed on the wolves so they were killing them. The scientist watches the wolves for a year to prove that it's not the wolves that are killing the elk.

Yes, the human race can be screwed up. But always remember that there are people against the sport if wolf hunting, like you, Jadelion, and me! There are so many people trying to stop this, but it's all about majority and debate and all that law and political stuff. Humans used to kill wolves to survive, but now we don't need wolves to survive. We have balanced breeding of chicken, sheep, and all that! We don't need to kill wolves fir sport. Support this now, please. We don't want another species g extinct because of the human race.

Humans take more than they need. Ivory poaching makes me so mad. So does the fact that we are ruining so many animal habitats. Rainforest, just to name one. I don't see how people can kill wolves or big cats (I love cats of any kind) just for fun. People say they're going to stop it, but not much is improving.

We kill alligators just to make "fashionable purses" And ivory poachers killed a whole herd of elephants (around 30) and left the carcasses. They only took the tusks. Why is the wolf always the bad guy in the stories. The Big Bad Wolf and the Three Little Pigs. We are the ones who eat pigs. It should be the Big Bad Human and the Three Little Pigs. (Sorry, I'm kinda going over the top here)

It depends on where you come from. In many northern areas wolves destroy livestock and cause a problem to local farmers.

Where I am in upstate new york, we have coyote issues. I've lost two cats to coyotes, my grandmother's Pomeranian was killed just off the porch by one, and my aunt's chickens were torn to shreds. Lots of pain and loss.

While hunting animals for the sake of sport is wrong, if wolves, bears, coyotes, etc are causing issues, the only answer is to destroy them. When people's entire livelihood is put into something that is destroyed due to wildlife, unfortunately the answer is obvious. There is no "we're on their turf" anymore. We are all animals, humans included, and have the right to fight for what is ours.

Where I'm from, the only good coyote is a dead coyote. I'm sure it's the same with wolves in many areas. You have to take care of your own. Sure they may remind us of the dogs we know and love, but when it comes down to it, they are wild animals and very often troublesome.

In short - going off into the woods and murdering animals for furs and fun - Wrong.
Taking out trouble animals that threaten your family and pets - Necessary.

if farmers want to protect their livestock then buy a wolf hound or other dog breeds. i really hate how hunters and farmers kill wolfs. all u need to do is scare them off your land. i watch mountain men and one of them goes out and hunts the mountain cat but he does't kill them all he does is scare them off hes land with hes dogs.

Interesting because a woman I know who raises goats tried something like that with the local coyotes and surprisingly enough, it didn't work. What sounds good in theory often does damned little in reality. Not to mention you are then valuing the lives of the wolves moreso than the dogs that have to go out and face them. Wolves are seen as beautiful and majestic creatures, and they're very popular. This doesn't make their lives worth more than any other animal.

When wild animal population gets out of control, "scaring' them away does very little good. When an animal knows food is available, they will often come back again and again. Mountain lions are much more territorial, they dont' often hunt in packs like wolves and coyotes do.

I'm sorry, but sometimes the only way to protect what is yours is to thin the population. It's not a cute and fuzzy world out there. In a utopian world all living creatures would get along and share the planet peacefully. Unfortunately, it's not.

I'm not in ANY advocating the hunting of wolves for pleasure of sport. My uncle once killed a black bear just so he could take a photo with it. It was disgusting and we have never agreed on the issue. I on the other hand, have assisted local farmers with coyote problems in the past. I also hunt deer and small game for meat. Any animal that's killed is done so humanely, with as much used as possible (although you cannot eat coyote meat for a number of reasons). With the rare exception of people like my idiot uncle, just about every single hunter I know -and there is a LOT- of us up here in upstate New York- takes special care to ensure that the animals don't suffer. We're not a bunch of blood thirsty murderers, you'd have to actually meet, get to know, and be part of the culture to understand.

I'm just saying that a difference must be recognized between those that do that and those who assist culling the herd for the survival of the people whose livelihoods are put at stake by the animals who threaten their way of life. We wouldn't tolerate other human beings coming on to our property and destroying what is ours, why is it any different with animals?

Besides, a clean death, even a few days in a trap, (which I don't do personally) is still better than the horrible, disgusting conditions that most cows, sheep, chickens and pigs go through in the huge commercial farms where we get our meat.

Remember, any time you're buying meat at a large grocery or retail store, most of those animals have suffered nearly their entire lives. Especially lamb raised in australia. Animals that are hunted have the luxury of a natural life and most often a quick clean death. That should be remembered next time someone has meat in their meal that was NOT hunted from wild life. I know wolves aren't hunted for meat, but when shot and killed quickly, they are still better off than the poor tortured things we put on the dinner plate, yet seem to show no remorse for eating.

Wolves are very much my favorite animal, I love and adore them and wish I could just get a puppy and raise it like a dog (Yes I'm aware, not how it works, but fantasy is fantasy.) but, like Black, I live in Upstate NY. Hunting animals like wolves and coyotes is necessary, especially in areas where there are large packs of them. There is a pack of coyotes, for instance, that lives in my back woods, and my all time favorite thing is getting to sit downstairs night after night and listen to them sing, and be able to hear the adorable little puppy yapping turn, gradually, into singing with the rest of their pack.

But there are plenty of hunters around as well, and while I don't hunt personally, I understand that it's necessary to thin the coyote/wolf populations. We have cats that go outside and live in the barn, our mousers, and while the coyotes don't pose any threat to our horses, they do pose threats to those cats and our two dogs, especially our older English lab. As much as I love the coyotes and wolves, a certain amount of hunting is necessary. There has to be a balance, yes, because the deer can't be allowed to get overpopulated and coyotes/wolves take care of a fair amount of the deer, but letting those packs get too big is just a bad idea for everyone who lives in the area and has any sort of animal, livestock or otherwise, that lives or occasionally goes outside.
