I tested this sylvorpa here:

yesterday, to figure out what his Unknown Gene 2 is. It's been nearly 24 hours and there's no result... Is this normal?

(He was found as an abandoned hatchling during a quest, and Gene 2 was already identified as unknown at that point.)

I think you should report this in the bug forum. Genetic testing is immediate, and I've never seen anything like this before...

If you check the bug forum, you will see that Krin fixed it ;-) It used to say Unknown still, but just in G2.
