My 5th grade class gets to dissect a lamb heart tomorrow in science. The people who passed a heart diagram test (90%+) will be able to and everyone did! I can't wait!

I hope you have fun. I had to dissect a lot of things in high school, including a rat, a cat, and a sheep's brain, heart, and eye (I chickened out on the eye, I got too squeamish). I can't say I'd want to do it again but it was an interesting experience. I was a little sad about the poor animals though, but I think they provide valuable educational experiences for students, so as long as the remains are treated with respect, and the animals died naturally/in a humane way I don't have too much of a problem with it.

Don't worry, I actually found the heart to be the least gross of the things I dissected. Once you get past the initial ick-factor, it's actually really interesting to see all the different chambers and valves inside the heart. The worst part for me was actually the smell of the chemicals they used to preserve the heart. Formaldehyde has a very strong odor lol

Ehhhh That seems like a fun experience :< We never do anything of the dissecting sorts.. we just mess around with growing our own plants (plant cloning in a sense), messing with chemicals and that's about it...

Ah grade school, I remember my class dissected an eye. I don't remember if it was a cow's or a sheep's though. What I do remember was that somehow I was the least squeamish in my group.
Just wait until you get to high school, depending on your biology teacher you might end up only dissecting an earthworm or frog.
Mine was called Queen Cruel because she had us dissect an earthworm, a crayfish, a frog, baby sharks, and piglets. Fun times. Fun times.
