I beat Talon and went back to town no one is talking to me or anything? I went to the fairy area before beating him did that like mess me up? I'm supposed to unlock a third pet slot right?

The quest continues in Umbra Forest, even if you haven't beaten Talon. Hes an extra boss. Check your quest log to see if you have any quests (Explore > Quest Log). As for the third party slot, you purchase it from the fairy in the Sanctuary at the Plaza for 25,000 gold.
