(I'm just going to note that this is going to be set in the fall of 2018.)
Florence felt unease being in his own skin at that moment, maybe he shouldn't have left. Are his parents upset that he decided to pack his things and bolt with Ellios at four in the morning? Most probably, they were most likely p*ssed.
The blond was also worried because his parents can report his van as stolen. He hoped they would forgive him. It would probably take them at least six hours for them to even notice and it should be threw days until they could actually report him as missing.
The regret showed only in the vice-like grip he had on the steering wheel and the strained smile on his face. They were about to get off onto the freeway West of town. He pulled off onto the mainly empty road, already looking for the 24hour Diner three miles from town. He sighed, his cheek still throbbed from the night before- Florence didn't want to think about it.
He glanced at Ellios, opening his mouth to ask to turn on the radio so he had something to take the edge from the situation. But he shut his mou instead, worried he'd mess up again. Besides, it was just a little bit more before the diner.

I look over at Florence. He seems worried.
"You okay?" I ask softly. "You wanna turn on the radio?"
I blink slowly at him, trying to tell him with my eyes that it's okay. I haven't told him this yet, but 30 minutes ago I got a missing person's alert on my phone. Not for him, but for me. Of course, my parents put out an alert for their "prize possession."
I gently rest my hand on Florences leg, trying to keep him calm. My phone begins to buzz from where I had placed it on the dashboard of the car. Even though I'm not actually talking to him, I hope Florence will be able to hear me telling him everything will be alright.

Florence jumped when Ellios spoke.
"I'm fine, just hoping we get out of state before noon." , He said. "And yes please, the radio would be nice."
He would've reveled in Ellios's attention if it weren't for him trying to pick up something quick before they bolted out of state. "How are you holding up?" , Florence asked, turning into the diner's parking lot. He knew something was up with His passenger but he didn't want to cause any upset.
He relaxed a little and squeezed Ellios's hand, just taking comfort from the fact he was there. At the same time he pulled down the viser and slid open the mirror to check if his bruise had finally decided to show.
The blond hissed at the red and purple that circled under his eye. He was going to need his shades.

I glance out the window.
"I'll be okay," I say softly, flipping the radio onto a channel that played oldies music. "I miss Sven though," I admit quietly. I gently run my free hand through my hair, listening to the familiar notes of "Mr. Blue Sky" play on the radio. I hum along to the music, zoning out a bit. My acoustic guitar is in the back of the van, so I play the notes on an invisible keyboard.
My eyes flick back over to Florence as he hisses. I gently run my hand over the bruise on his face, careful not to distract him while he's driving.
"Are you sure you're okay with driving like that? You know I can do it," I say. "Where did the bruise come from anyway? I didn't ask this morning because frankly, I passed out as soon as my head hit the headrest. My anxiety kept me up way too late last night." Okay, apparently I'm in a chatty mood. I guess that happens when I get nervous. I'm nervous more for Florence than me, as my parents wouldn't dare touch me and risk me not working with them anymore. His parents, on the other hand, have no such qualms. So we can't get caught.

Florence nodded, gently tapping his hand. "I'm sure you'll be able to contact him when we get to California." , He reassured, beginning to gently tap his foot to the beat of the song. He flipped the viser up and sighed, his pain killers were just in the console, but he needed coffee to wash it down.
Florence nearly slapped Ellios's hand away when he reached to touch his bruise. Even when he recognized that it was just his partner his jaw was clenched as if he was about to get hit. He took a deep breath and gently leaned into the touch, only slightly wincing.
He wanted to say he'd be fine, but maybe he needed a break. "Maybe I should take a break, let me just pick up a cup of coffee." , Florence also knew he shouldn't be downing coffee, but he was stressed and he needed some to stay afloat.
He pulled into the drive through and placed his order before he answered Ellios. "Dad got mad at me for forgetting to clean the kitchen." , He muttered, pulling away from Ellios to put his sunglasses on so he could pick up his drink.
He paid the lady and took the piping hot coffee and balanced it on the dash. "I got you a snack, El." , he murmured, handing Ellios a stroodle. He pulled up and out of the line so they could switch seats, humming to the fading beats of the song. The music then piped up again with the beginning notes of "Day Tripper" by the Beatles, earning a slightly happier expression from Florence.

I grin wide, probably the first time I've smiled all day.
"Thanks, Florence," I say, grabbing the sweet from him and sliding into the driver's seat. I take a nibble out of the snack, humming happily to the radio. I'm not a huge fan of oldies music, but I know Florence likes it. And to be completely honest, it's starting to rub off on me.
I slip into the driver's seat, grabbing the steering wheel so hard my knuckles turn white. I hate the way Florence's family treats him. And I hate that I was too cowardly to do anything about it. I pull out of the parking lot, munching on my Stroodle.
I continuously flip my eyes over to Florence, fearing I may have made him angry or upset.
"I'm sorry," I murmur, feeling like I may've screwed up for about the seventh time this week.

Florence smiled back, though it wasn't nearly as wide.
"Yeah, no problem." , He said in the most cheerful tone he could possibly muster. He had nearly forgotten that they were to switch seats until Ellios began to scoot over. He scrambled to get out of the way, narrowly squeezing behind him. He got over the shock quickly when he settled down with his coffee. Florence buckled up, quietly singing along to the Beatles, he knew most of their songs by heart. He even began to nod to the beat, not yet comfortable enough to actually start dancing.
It took Florence a moment to notice how tight he was gripping the steering wheel. The blond slowly reached over and held Ellios's hand and gave him a reassuring look. He knew how much he hated his family and that he couldn't do anything. He got Florence out of the situation, no matter how jarring it is.
"Don't be." , Florence hummed. "Now, let's get going so we don't get caught." He slowly pulled away and began to drink his coffee, slowly beginning to sway along to the music. Florence began to stare out of the window himself, wondering what his family was thinking.

I slide back onto the highway, keeping my eyes on the road, but every once and a while, I'll look over at Florence to make sure he's doing okay. I know the radio is on, but I tune it out and begin humming a song from a musical that I've recently discovered.
I flip my eyes over to Florence for a brief second before speaking.
"So, are we going to take turns driving through the night, or are we going to stop somewhere?" I ask softly, blinking slowly while finishing off my food. I intertwine the fingers of my free hand with Florences, liking the feeling of holding onto him.
Even though we've been dating for a while, Florence still sets off the butterflies in my stomach and makes my face blush bright when he chooses to. I smile gently at him, just grateful that he's here with me.

Florence began to zone out, watching the early morning commute to work. He pulled his legs up onto the seat. The blond was slowly beginning to regret leaving again, wondering if things would have gotten better if he stayed. Florence ran a hand through his hair, sighing.
He snapped out of his melancholy when Ellios spoke. He snapped his head to look at him, trying hard to focus on what he was saying. Florence contemplated what to respond with, they could take turns, or they could stop. The blond soon came up with an answer.
"We'll take turns, but if we really need to... We can stop?" , He replied, still calculating. They should be good on gas, especially because he filled the tank last night and brought a full gas can in the trunk.
Florence smiled when Ellios held his hand, relaxing again, his brain slowing down. He brought their hands up to his face and gently nuzzled Ellios's hand. Florence was always thankful that Ellios loved him and he would always love him with as much passion they had when they first started dating. Though, he sometimes had a worry in the back of his mind that Ellios might not love him forever. Of course it wasn't true, it was just his brain trying to ruin something good.
"I love you." , He murmured.

I nod.
"That makes sense. You are the smart one after all," I say, not really paying attention to what I'm saying. I carefully pull out my headphones and play a new song that's just come out with, one I'm obsessed with. I don't want to bother Florence listening to his music, so I let my Spotify playlist start going quietly, my eyes never leaving the road for more than a second.
I blush slightly as Florence nuzzles my hand, glancing over to look at him with his legs tucked under himself. I blink fondly at him before turning back to the road. I'm overtaken by a wave of affection for the younger boy. I'm so glad he's here with me. I have no doubt that I would've left home, but I'm just so glad that he's here with me.
I jump slightly and my face turns bright red as Florence speaks again, just as the song "Green" by Cavetown begins playing through my headphones. I look over at Florence.
"I love you too," I say in a quiet, affectionate voice.
