The Rifts of Antiquity
"Welcome, traveler," A quiet but authoritative voice murmured. A girl with long, dark turquoise hair stepped into the light, offering a reassuring smile as she did so.
You don't say anything, eyes narrowed at the odd figure. The girl didn't seem to be armed, but neither were you. And being unarmed in the Fallen Kingdoms was something to be avoided at all costs.
"I see you're wary," the girl continued. "I have no weapons. All weapons have been removed from the room."
Still, you allowed no response. You didn't know the girl. There was no way to check if she was telling the truth.
The girl wound a piece of her hair around her finger, traveling and unraveling it as she spoke. "I'm generally not a very frightening person. Truly, this is one of the first times one has been afraid of me. Though, I guess I would look alarming to foreigners."
Words you wanted to speak boiled in your chest, but you didn't let them out.
Yet.
"I assume you won't be speaking any time soon. Very well then, I shall move on to your purpose," the girl continued. "I'm Cyrilla, in case you were interested." 'Cyrilla' tilts her head, hoping for a reaction.
Not yet.
"I hired the most professional scientist I could find to study the Fallen Kingdoms. When none of them found anything useful, I decided it was time to take the search into my own hands. Almost immediately, I found shocking information. Or rather, the lack of it. If you go through the history books, you'll notice that certain information seems to be destroyed in every single one. Drops of ink, ripped paper, missing pages, scribbles; it's almost like somebody was trying to destroy it," Cyrilla's pale blue eyes flickered, "As far as I know, all of the information disappeared into thin air. This is why I think that Rifts were involved."
Rifts were portals. Forbidden ones. Ever since The Ash Province had fallen, portals were deemed unsafe. After all, that was thought to be how everything had gone wrong, though it was never proven.
"A friend of mine used to work with Rifts and agreed to open one. It's too dangerous for me to go inside, so I need an accomplice to do it for me. I chose you," Cyrilla shots you a reassuring nod. "Don't worry; I've watched you for a month now. I know you can do it. Are you in?"
Despite all of the turmoil in your head, you know your decision. The Fallen Kingdoms had driven you insane with curiosity since they had fallen. It was time to figure out why. "Yes."
Cyrilla smiled charmingly, "So you can talk."
